Subject: Answers to the Degrassi Survey

Hey there, here are my answers for the survey!

1.What episiode do you prefer?

(a)food for thought....kathleen has anorexia

(b)the experiment......Joey sells drugs

(c)The fight.......Dwayne kicks Joeys ass

umm.... i don't especially like any of those episodes, but i guess, the only one that stands out, would be Food for Thought (because Kathleen is being really bitchy!)

2.Who is your most favorite character?

(a) Spike

(b) Shane

(c) Stephaine

SPIKE ALL THE WAY!

3.GIRLS ONLY QUESTION

Who would you consider the most good-looking...

(a) Joey

(b) Snake

(c) Patrick

Joey! (and then Patrick and Snake tied)

4.GUYS ONLY QUESTION

who would you consider the best looking?

(a) Liz

(b) Lucy

(c) Caitlin

5.In todays world..the worst dresser would be...

(a) Voula "Ties and long plaid skirts"

(b) Stephaine Kaye "Spandex pink pants"

(b) Wheels "Those scary tight pants"

Definatly Wheels!!! (I know a guy in a grade below me, that goes on the same bus, he's like a Wheels, tight pants clone...scary!)

6.Your least favorite character out of the bunch is...

(a) Stephaine Kaye

(b) Dwayne

(c) Erica

I dunno, but I HATE Dwayne at the begining, but after he gets AIDS, he's nicer.

7.Your favorite eposiode is: anyone with Spike or Claude in it.

8.Your least favorite eposiode is: The Last Dance (shown too many

times, and do depressing...<sniff>)

9.Your Favorite Character is: Spike

10.Your least favorite character is: Shane (he's so hypocritical!) and Wheels

11.Your least favorite 80s trend: those weird printed clothes!

12.Best Couple: Alexa and Simon

13.Worst Couple: BLT and Michelle (he's so possesive!)

My other stuff.... Anyone else here notice how Caitlin always does stuff with out finding out all the facts first... I don't really like her- I felt sooo sorry for Joey when she was seeing him and Claude, it made me depressed.... As well, my sister thought I was insane when I felt sorry for Joey in School's Out, and not Caitlin. Oh well, we all have our preferences... As well, if anyone is a common visitor of the Degrassi Fan Club's Message board, they've probably noticed the sick messages that someone's been posting. It's ruining the whole board- look at how there are no messages with out there being something sick posted about the topic. If anyone knows who's doing it, tell them to stop.... I hate going to the Message Board only to see sick messages.... Anyone here see the new CBC show "Twitch City"? on the first episode, the main character, Curtis, was watching the "Rex Reily" show and the topic was "I slept with my mom" and Stefan (Snake) was playing the guy who slept with his mom!! Cool huh? Also, I saw a news show on "Twitch City" and they played a clip from an up-commin episode, and Curtis was watching an episode of Degrassi!! Cool! (the best show being watched in another cool show!) (Twitch City is on CBC at 9:30 pm, on Mondays, but the Olympics have pre-empted it, for 2 weeks..and it is a 6 part series.) Well, I think I've took up quite a bit of this Digest, with this and my other message. (I was sick today, and had no school- so i devoted my day to Degrassi!!)

Peace,

~Paige : )

*Mark* Thanks for letting me know of some news. I hope Oren reads this and takes out the vulgar parts of his message board. Degrassi is supposed to be celebrated and talked about in high regard, not insulted. Thanks for posting this message about the message board. I hope Oren will remove all the vulgar messages. As for Caitlin, I see what you mean, but perhaps she was immature, like in Smokescreen, Censored, The Whole Truth, All in a Good Cause, and Stressed Out. We can see that Caitlin does not always think before she acts, but then, we all make mistakes, as Caitlin is passionate for her causes, all of them, but she fails to think about how others are going to be affected in the long run. She was a bit selfish, and I was mad at her for going out with Claude (who I did not like at all). She gave the excuse, "It's not you, it's me"

Dear Degrassi Digest,

Does anyone remember the show The Kids of Degrassi Street? It was the precursor to Degrassi Junior High!

*Mark* Kids of Degrassi Street is not seen very often on Television anymore as the series was on for a couple of years, only spanning twenty six episodes. When I contacted a large book store if they still carried the books, they told me that there is no "Kids" books selling in the actual bookstores. It has to ordered from the publisher, and we can only hope that they will have some copies in print. I do not think they are continuing to print the "Kids" series, as the Television Show was from the early eighties. The show was not actually a pre-cursor to Degrassi Junior High, and Degrassi High. It was about elementary school children dealing with daily life as a child. Although some of the Degrassi Junior High/ Degrassi High actors acted in all three series, The "Kids" series was not linked in a any way to Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High. The actors who continued on to Degrassi Junior High were given different character names, although their "Degrassi Junior High/Degrassi High"character (with a new name) still retained much of their "Kids" character.

Hi, did any of you notice the weird scene with Alex and a typewriter on the Degrassi High episode aired on the 26th? It was the episode with the guys playing poker and the girls getting stoned. It showed like three minutes with Alex looking like he was sneaking around. Was this another story line cut out of the show?

*Mark* Alex and his father were planning their annual fishing trip, and he had a big paper to write, so he had to stay up all night, and miss the poker game (with Luke, Arthur, Yick, and Joey). This part of the episode was not a crucial part of this episode, but it showed three different parts to "All Nighter": Melanie, Kathleen, Maya, and Caitlin, at Diana's surprise party, Joey, Luke, Yick, and Arthur at the poker game, where Arthur plays dumb the whole time, and finally Alex writing his paper all night, so he can go on his fishing trip with his father.

Hey there,

Okay, over the past few weeks, I've ben thinking up all these questions about Degrassi, while watching it.. So, in School's Out, Wheels is teasing Snake and Joey about their Virginity, but I was wondering, since when was Wheels not a virgin? As well, There seem to be quite a few Degrassi Characters that smoke, on the show (Luke, Yick...) and there was that scene where Melanie, Kathleen, & Diana are trying pot.. Anyways, do they use real cigarettes and/or pot for these scenes? Or is it some type of stage prop? As well, for an English assignment, I'm writing a report on Degrassi("Degrassi is the BEST Drama Series ever!") and I'm wondering if the following things are true:

* hair was done by the cast members themselves

* not that much make-up was used, except for the stage make-up

* most make-up was done by the cast members themselves

I know that Amanda Stepto did her spiked hair herself, but I'm wondering about the rest.... I'll send in my Degrassi report when I'm done, if anyone here wants to read it!

thanx!

~Paige : )

*Mark* I read that the actors and actresses put on their own makeup, but Rebecca Haines can confirm that if she would like to responmd to this. I think in "School's Out", it was not mentioned as to how Wheels lost his virginity, but we know he has lost it before Joey and Snake, but he could be lying. Amanda Stepto does do her own hair, but I'm sure she looks very different now that Degrassi ended in 1991. As for their hair, after watching a Degrassi documentary called "Between Takes" in 1988, I found out that Degrassi actors did their own hair. Degrassi was not Beverley Hills 90210, and I am personally happy, because it would not have been believable. Degrassi was universal in its message, and Beverley Hills 90210 is a glimpse of American, glamourous, rich kids struggle with the same issues as Degrassi, but I think the series was too wrapped up in materialism, rather than content. I'm pretty sure they were smoking real cigarettes, or maybe herbal ones, but I do not think they were smoking marijuana, as we all know that it is illegal, but if Rebecca wants to comment on this question or answer it, then she is welcomed to. Thank you Paige for your comments.

Mark

In your response to Jennifer Pitt you asked about SBS, thinking it was a reference to PBS. Actually, SBS is a reference to a TV channel in Australia and ABC is a reference to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (Americans understandably confuse this with their own American Broadcasting Corporation). In Australia, our ABC broadcast Degrassi a few times but I think they only broadcast "School's Out" only once:( I'm a big fan of Degrassi and I was fortunate enough to receive a reply to my letter to Susin Nielsen, one of the writers of the series - she also played the role of a Degrassi cleaner in the episode where the heating system broke down. I have brought most of the Degrassi books but I have been unable to get my hands on the book "Yick and Arthur". Has anyone seen this book?

Barry Yau

*Mark* You are correct, she did write many of the Degrassi episodes, plus many Degrassi books. She also palyed Louella Hawkins occasionally on the series (3-5 episodes) That is great that she wrote back to you! "Arthur and Yick" is the only Degrassi Junior High book I am missing that book as well, and I have been looking for it for many years. I am assuming that it is out of print, because of low sales, and that it will not be re-printed. You can write to the Publisher of Degrassi Books at:

James Lorimer & Company, Publishers

JAMES LORIMER AND COMPANY 35 BRITAIN STREET TORONTO, ONTARIO M5A 1R7 (416) 362-4762 CANADA
or you can contact the online bookstore called Amazon at

http://www.amazon.com

Good luck and thanks for your post.

Mark,

ABC and SBS are Australian Television Stations - and are not related to US stations.

ange

*Mark* Sorry for the mixup, and I will make sure to differentiate the two networks. As Ange is interested in lobbying to get Degrassi back on air, I wish her the best of luck. Show your support, by trying to get in touch with the local television station or network which broadcasts Degrassi, and find out why they are doing this. If it is an economic decision, then there is not much you can do, but you can always get a petitition going. If interested in contacting with the ABC, you can reach the Australian Broadcating Corporation at: http://www.abc.net.au/corp/conmap1.htm Follow the image map to which region of Australia you live in, and there should be much information on who to contact about why they have decided to stop showing Degrassi. Maybe you can find out what you can do to help re-broadcast Degrassi. Thanks for your post, Ange.

SBS (Special Broadcast Service) is an Australian network that focuses on Multicultural programming. I think the reference to ABC is a reference to the Australian Broadcasting company, and not the American Broadcasting Company. I guess both of these stations, who share the same acronym, both used to show Degrassi, but now neither do.

Don

*Mark* Thanks for informing me of that. I assume that SBS is very similar to PBS, as they both show non-commercial, multicultural programming, that is probably unlike any other major network, which shows the American Television Shows. Thank you for your information.

Hi all. I just want to make it clear that many of the outfits were our own clothes, but that we were dressed according to a "character's" wardrobe/look. Some of the sweaters or pants I wore were my own, but then they were combined with other items to make me look "nerdy" and conservative, as Kathleen. This was the way it was for most of the characters. The rationale behind this was that if we did not dress "trendy" the show would not appear "dated" and would appeal to people in different countries. However, everyone always comments to me about how badly we were dressed. In fact, the boys in the zit remedy used to constantly make fun of my nerdy Kathleen skirts by saying,"Rebecca is hot!" in a sarcastic way, until it eventually became a running inside joke. And yes, before the final episode of Jr. High I was so upset by the ugly prom dress that I was required to wear in the final scene that I had a break-down and cried! Everyone was laughing at the dress(You don't really see me in the scene anyways) and I couldn't take it.

Just some trivia for all you DJH fanatics....

Rebecca Haines

*Mark* Thanks a lot Rebecca for your time in answering the question of clothes.

Mark,

Since I live in California the only way I could get Canadian stations woud be to buy a huge satalite dish. This would cost me some were around $1500 U.S. funds. A little bit out of my price range. Thanks for the idea though. I just have something to keep an eye out for, more Degrassi!! I am sure someone will show it again. Just counting the days :^)

~~~~~Brian
P.S....if anyone has any luck purchasing the videos form the addresses given, can you please pass the word along to the list.
*Mark* Are the addresses not valid anymore? They should be still available to sell Degrassi Episodes. If you have trouble looking for old Degrassi episodes, the best thing to do is to go to David's Site or Oren's site as they have resources for trading Degrassi episodes. I bought my Degrassi episodes in 1988, from the addresses I gave last time, and the companies may not exist anymore, but I can contact Epitome Pictures and ask them if there are Degrassi episodes still on the market for sale.
Good luck
