Hi again,
Mark I liked your comment "stereotypes are not always a bad thing" in
regards to the comment that was made about Bobby Millions. He is an
American who wondered why the characters on Degrassi never wore a
hockey
jersey once on the show. Amber Milley found his observation to be
stereotypical. I would have to disagree. I also found it strange that
you
never saw anyone wearing a hockey jersey in any of the episodes until
recently when I saw an episode of Degrassi High where some unknown was
walking down the hallway sporting an old style Buffalo Sabres jersey.
In
fact, today I was watching the episode of DJH where Lucy and Paul get
serious about each other and you can clearly see Michelle wearing a
Chicago
Black Hawks jacket as she walks towards the front of the school.
Take Care,
Clayton

Hey Degrassi fans!

I agree -- we should stop repeating the same old Degrassi occurances,
such as Mr. Lawrence's ironic and funny announcements in the background
of DJH episodes.  Let's look for other patterns and occurances in the
series, and best of all, challenge each other.  Dig deep!  Here's a
start!

In "One Last Dance" when Joey is nervously pacing while waiting for
Caitlin at the formal...

Wheels:  "Relax! Everything will be fine. Trust me!"

(Joey turns around)

Joey:  "Don't say that!  Aw, everytime we say that
        it's a disaster man!"

(Wheels throws back his head and laughs)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
---------

Let's see how much truth there is in Joey's statement.  Let's try to
find all the occurances in DJH and DH where somebody (Joey, Wheels, or
Snake especially) says the words "Trust me" and the disaster that
results.  The DJH episode entitled "Trust Me" (where Wheels, Joey, and
Snake borrow Snake's father's car to drive Wheels to the optomitrist)
does not count.

I can think of two:

1) At the beginning of "Bye bye Junior High" (DJH), after Caitlin
consents to going to the dance with Joey, she says "If anything goes
wrong..." and Joey interrupts her, saying "Don't worry, nothing will go
wrong, trust me."  The disaster is when Joey gets a C on his report
card, thus causing him not to be able to go to the dance with Caitlin
because of a deal he had with his parents.  However, everything turns
out well when Joey's parents allow him to go to the dance after all.

2) In "A Tangled Web" (DH), while Snake and Joey wait for Wheels before
the three of them take off in Joey's car to go to the Gourmet Scum
concert, Joey  plans a shortcut through some abandoned roads so that
the three of them will not miss the beginning of the concert.  Wheels
joins them and as they zoom off, Snake says "Joey, I think we should
stick to the main roads."  Joey replies, "Don't worry, this shortcut
will get us there in no time, trust me."  Disaster strikes when Joey's
car breaks down on an abandoned road, which then leads to the first of
Joey and Wheels friendship struggles when they get into an argument
after Wheels calls Joey's car a piece of junk.

C'mon Degrassi fans!  Let's find the other instances of "trust me" and
the disasters that develop! --

I just watched an episode of DJH on Showcase. It was the one where
Caitlyn thinks that Joey likes her but he's really after Liz. In the
subplot Alexa tries to set up Michelle and BLT but she ends up hitting
on him instead. I was just wondering, were Alexa and Simon dating at
that point or were they just friends? I was confused because Alexa was
hitting on BLT right in front of Simon. I love Simon's character by the

happy to learn that Degrassi High: School's Out was ranked at #44 out
of 100!  This list indicates the total calculated sales and is updated
every hour. It's cool that Degrassi has that kind of staying power/cult
following.  Especially since there was no publicity hoopla to advertise
it's release and it is also competing against recent titles such as
Star Wars Episode 1 and Pokemon.

fellow degrassi lovers,

My story is one of lament and loss :) i've always been a fan of
degrassi, as it seems to be one of those shows that mark my childhood
with
little time capsules of memory.  The height (or low) of my degrassi
experience may be when i was in grade six, roughly about seven years
ago
when Stacie Mistysyn came to my school.  It was part of a literacy
program
for students where actors would read children's stories aloud.  The sad
part, however, was that this was for kindergarton or grade one students
only
- which eliminated the chance of any real fans (including myself) from
seeing her  (I suppose though, Caitlin reading Curious George to grade
6's
may have been a little strange)  I know, I know, you're all shaking
your
heads... I guess a more daring fan may have made more of an effort to
see
her (a la Lucy, Heather, Erica, Snake and Joey trying to catch a
glimpse of
the Savages) but I lack their spunk.  And I regret it to this day. A
small
piece of my heart is missing having never met Caitlin of degrassi.
*tears...*  here ends my sorrow filled tale. :)

Hello Everyone,

Here is something very interesting that you all may or may not know.
This observation on your part is understandable since we never got to
see inside
the schoo. Doris Bell's and Principal Lawrence's office is actually
located upstairs
and the 3 windows in the office are the ones you see at the front of
the building directly
above the main entrance. The hallway upstairs where most of the action
took
place (Joeys locker outside Raditch's room, etc). Well would you believe
that
that hallway is the exact same hallway that you see outside Doris
Bell's
office in every DJH episode that had office scenes in them. It's true.
How
did the crew deceive us?
Simple-all they did was move the blue and red lockers around in the
upst
airs hallway for the office shots.
In fact they would move the lockers right in front of the doors leading
to
the stairwell. You don't believe it-check one episode in
particular(when
Erica thinks she has Mononucleuosis) and you can see the good work they
did
in shifting the lockers around.
For the major hallway scenes they would put the lockers right in front
of
the office entrance so you would have no idea that the office was even
there, and the twins have lockers right there blocking the office
entrance.
I think this is one of the most interesting Degrassi factoids.
Cheers,
Clayton

*Mark* Sounds interesting, but I am sure that the second floor with the
two classrooms, and broom closet were on the second floor and that
Doris Bell and Mr. Lawrence's office were on the first floor.  I agree
about shifting lockers because I know they did this on the second floor
for season 3 tro give the illusion of the third classroom, Mr. Garcia's
and in the first season for the Resource Centre which was really Mr.
Raditch's classroom...but I am sure the office was really on the first
floor.

love
the comparison. The characters are so simular. Here's an idea for all
you
RHPS and DH cross-over fans who would you cast from degrassi to play in

the Rocky roles? Here's my list

Frank - Joey
Columbia - Catilyn
Riff Raff - Snake
Magneta - Lucy
Brad - Wheels
Janet (at the start) - Michelle
Janet (at the end) - Stephanie K
Rocky - Simon of course
Criminologist - Mr. Raditch
Eddie / Dr. Scott - Duane
Misc Transylvanians  - Spike, Liz, Authur, the Twins, Shane, Scooter

Or for Frank my second choice would be Clutch and then I'd have Joey be
Brad
dressed up in his costume from "It Creeps" which BTW is done in Rocky
type
letters :)

Hi everyone...

This is in response to Yale Lee's comments about PBS not ending the
Degrassi
Series properly.  I live in New Jersey, and I watched Degrassi since it
was
first aired on PBS (I think this was 87 or 88).  I also hated Channel
13's
irregular scheduling...Degrassi was first aired around 5PM on weekdays,
then
it was switched to Saturdays...at one time, it was shown at noon on
weekdays
as well.  Luckily, I was switching channels at work one day and found
Degrassi on another PBS station, WLIW, which was a Long Island station.
 They
aired the whole series, and they usually aired it on Saturdays and
Sundays.
I'm sorry you were unable to catch it then.  Incidentally, Channel 13
aired
School's Out...the last time I am aware of was 1998.

As for the Kevin Smith rumors...he was (still is) a Degrassi fan.  I
read on
Sharon's update site that someone saw him at a comic book convention in
Toronto, and he said he would direct a Degrassi reunion movie if
approached.

I would personally LOVE to see this happen, but I think it would be up
to
Degrassi's creators first.

Take care everyone!

This message goes out to Amber Milley, Bobby Millions never said that
the
kids of Degrassi had to wear hockey jerseys since they were Canadians.
I
would assume that since being from Canada, that a jersey would find its
way
onto an episode or two.  I mean Snake had that gray Detroit Tigers
shirt, BLT
had that San Diego Chargers jersey, circa-1960's, and then those tack
Degrassi High football jerseys.  Please, I was fired last year for
writing a
story about Canadians, I was tossed for using the word Canuck.  My
advisors
thought it was derogatory name for Canadians.  Ottawa residents, might
have
seen me in the Sun last February, well anyway, I mention Degrassi in
it.

Here is another question that I would like for some to answer.

What other television show do you feel has come close to the realness
of
Degrassi High?

What was the Kids of Degrassi? Anybody have information on that, I
heard that
Rachel Blanchard from the TV series Clueless was on there, along with
Wheels,
Caitlin, but with other names.  Is this series worth watching, or is it
to
kiddy like?  I heard that it ran from 1979-80, 1981-86, making the
whole
entire Degrassi Series an 11-season dynasty.

Snake says "It was really nice of you to ask."  And then Spike replies
"It was nice of you to say yes," which was dead on.

Spike.  I always liked Snake but he didn't ditch Spike [see above]
Spike realized that Snake wanted to go with Michelle.  I personally

Howdy. This first thing doesn't really have anything to do with Degrassi
here, but on the speaking of Erica and Heather guest appearing on Kids
in the Hall and Tessa dating Neve Campbell's brother in School's Out, I
was reminded of the hilarious K.I.T.H skit where Kevin MacDonald and
Mark Mckinney are sleazy pizza vendors who are being tormented by the
innocent ways of a bunch of school girls in knee socks and skirts. Neve
Campbell is in the sketch. Also, to the guy who wanted to know the name
of the radio station where Joey applies for a job- CRAZ radio.
On the topic of writing a script or something, that sounds
really fun. I've been inspired by "It Creeps" to write my own  cheesy
horror play. It doesn't have any Degrassi characters in it but I totally
steal Snake's attitude as a dumb, leather clad , gay biker or whatever
he was. He was so funny in that role. When he walks around the corner
singing "Dum dee dum" to himself, and the hand gestures!! Oh! OH!! So
funny!  One last thing, on one of the last two Digests, somebody
mentioned that the scenes in School's Out involving Tessa and Joey and
Caitlin and Joey running across the beach represent something in their
lives that is only going to run away or fade away. Nifty observation.
Took me a second read to get it though, I didn't notice the Tessa
following Joey and Joey following Caitlin thing. I'd like to know if
this was what the writers were trying to get across. I don't think they
were personally, it seems like more of just a,  "Hey, Joey's a player,
check him out on the beach!"  kind of thing to me. I always found those
scenes hilarious. I don't know what it is about Degrassi. The cheese
factor is so high, but I will defend the show and the actors to the
point of sacrificing my body. Except the third goon in the
Dwayne/Tabi/goon triangle. That guy was such a tool. The part stoner,
part gino, part should be working at L.D.s' garage thing just wasn't
working. But if Claude is ever in need of a kidney or something, I will
definitely hook him up. Call me, I've got My own kidneys.

Here's a tip for anybody wanting to buy Degrassi books.  Check local
used bookstores BEFORE checking the Internet.  I bought several books
from e-bay and Amazon for about $5 each and then a week later I found a
bunch of the same ones plus several more for a quarter each.

Love the site, love the digest, and love Stephanie Kaye

I don't see why people care if others start liking something after its
inception.  Bandwagon jumpers are not a bad thing.  If it wasn't for
people who only like things because its in fashion or become only a
half-assed fan, Sloan and the Preachers would have a harder time paying
their bills and there wouldn't be a big enough Degrassi fan base for CBC
to continue showing reruns over and over again.
So get off your high horses and encourage the newer generation of fans.
Besides, I know what I'm talking about.  After all, I've liked Degrassi
and Sloan from the beginning. :p

Hi,

I'm writing from the states. We get Much Music down here by some
wonderful twist of fate, but I doubt I'll ever get "Jonovision" (is that
a TV network or  station?) or be able to see the Degrassi Reunion show.
And I'd like to, because I'm an A #1 fan of DeGrassi and all things
Canadian. For instance, last year I saw great concerts by Sloan and The
Tragically Hop and have all their cds and am hoping they both return to
Ohio again this year. I would like to hear from anyone who follows the
Candian music scene. If anyone reading this taped the Degrassi Reunion
Special- please communicate with me via email to arrange a trade for a
VHS copy. I have SCHOOL'S OUT, KDS, DJH and DH shows and a large
collection of other shows for trade. Would surely have something you're
looking for.

Sincerely, Mark Hill

Yeah, i know i'm a little too young to be watching Degrassi and i only
found
the reruns a few years ago, but i love the show way too much to care.
it
makes me happy. Anyways, isnt that what shows are supposed to do, no
matter
when you start watching them? I am a complete Snake freak. His clothes
kicked ass in every season. One thing I liked about Degrassi Junior
High was
they always had scenes with urinals, and how Wheels was almost always
the
one with his zipper down. My personal origin for the word "Broomhead" :
In
"Kiss me Steph" Joey and Hank(?) lock Arthur into the janitors closet
while
he looks for his seventh grade class. Hank(?) laughs and calls Arthur a
"broomhead"...because hes in a closet full of brooms! Thats just what I
think. I wanted to know a) When CBC or Showcase are planning to show
Schools
Out( Ive seen everyone of the episodes just not the movie)  b) Why in
season
three Arthur and Yick are calling Tessa and (ugh) Dorothy narbos and it
seems like they two girls are in grade seven(Arthur and Dorothy were
supposed to be cousins) but in Degrassi High all of them are in the
same
grade(9) and c) In "Fight!" many people address the bully as Dwayne but
in
the credits he is just "Bully". My all-time favourite episode: "It
Creeps!"
(racy) and my all-time favourite quote: friend-"I bet nobodys ever
called
Rick a nerd." Scooter-"No, Ricks as cool as a popsicle."
                                        Thanks so much,
                                                       -LESLIE-
PS- In response to Marks thing about the song in "Bye bye, Junior High"
called Cosmetics, a lot of the songs played in the show were by a
Canadian
singer named Marc Jordon or Taylor and hes probably the one who sings
it.

Hello fellow Degrassi fans!
I've been lurking on this list for a couple of months. It's great to
know that there are so many people out there who also enjoy Degrassi.
I don't know if there will ever be a reunion, but here is how I
imagine some of the characters:

Joey-- Works as a used car salesman. Makes decent $$$ but spends
frivolously. Not married. Lots of casual girlfriends. He has feelings
for the intelligent young woman who lives next door, but he always
makes a fool of himself whenever he tries to impress her.

Snake-- Married to a "nice" lady, has a couple of young children.
Works in an office, and is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. One of
the reasons why is his boss, who just so happens to be...

Kathleen-- She's climbing the career ladder at a large, high tech
firm. She spends most of her time torturing her subordinates. Not
married, no kids, no boyfriend. Has loads of money, but doesn't flash
it around.

Lucy-- Travels around the world, making documentary films. Has won
prestigious awards for her work. Doesn't have a lot of money and
doesn't particularly care. However, her well-to-do parents are
pressuring her to get a more conventional job and settle down.

LD-- Coaches women's sports teams at a small university. Constantly
battles with the sexist men in the sports department. Married to a
nice, ordinary kind of guy. However, because of her past history of
cancer, she cannot have children. This causes some tension in her
marriage.

Wheels-- Out of jail, drifts around from job to job. Lives with a
truck-stop waitress who has 3 kids, one of which is his.

Caitlin-- Majored in women's studies at a large university. Now works
as a professor, and occasionally gets into trouble because of her
political activism. Has had relationships with men and women. However,
right now, she is involved with a much older ex-hippy who spends his
days uncovering conspiracy theories on the Internet. Still keeps in
touch with Miss Avery.

Arthur-- Works as a computer programmer. He is engaged to a woman who
can only be described as a "nerd." But he adores her.

Stephanie-- Married to a wealthy businessman. Had a career, but gave
it up to raise her daughter, who competes in beauty pageants.

Spike and Liz-- Own a punk nightclub. They've both been married and
divorced and are now sharing a house. Emma, a junior high student, is
a conservative, preppy kind of kid who is somewhat ashamed of her
mom's tattoos and body jewelry.

Shane-- Lives in a group home. Sees Emma occasionally. His parents
have been trying to win Emma away from Spike for years.

That's all I can think of for now. I know I haven't written about all
of the characters. If anyone else has ideas, please share them. Let's
have some fun!

thank you michelle and others for your info about rick, funny isn't it?
That
he himself got into the kind of trouble that his character is so famous
for!

astro boy kicks ass!

the radio station joey works for is called K-R-A-Z i believe.

k, here's a degrassi discrepency i noticed, on the episode where Diana
is
caught smoking, she tells someone (maybe Caitlin) that she's sure she
wont
get in trouble cause her brother is working days and "mama" doesn't
speak
english, only greek. Then on "the all nighter" Kathleen comes to school
the
day of Diana's bday sleepover saying that she "finalised the
arangements
with Diana's mom over the phone last night". I'm pretty sure that
Kathleen
doesn't speak greek....

i have to agree, "women are like asprin, you take two and go to bed" is
definatly classic joey jarahmiah. One of the best
I don't know if i've ever shared my fave quote with you guys before,
it's
when Spike is trying to hook up with a guy and she says to Liz, "why
would
he want me? I'm short! I'm a mother!" ! I love it, i always think it
should
be followed with something like, "both of which are qualitys which
would
weigh equally in choosing someone for a girlfriend." I frigin love
degrassi!!!!

Hi!

My name is Helen, and I'm new to this list-serve.  Being a Canadian, I
have
the answer to the question about Wheel's Dad.  It wasn't the same guy.
I
live in Nova Scotia, and was talking to Wheel's biological father
today, as
he was at my school.  His name is Dave James, and he's a professional
drummer who does work shops around the province.  I've worked with him
several times, he's a great guy!

As for Wheel's adoptive father, I saw a guy on a Nova Scotia Power
commercial, whom I think was him.  Can anyone help me out here?

And Dr. Sally--I'm sure most Canadian's have watched the Sunday Night
Sex
show, where Sally (or Sue Johanson) is the host.  It's an interesting
phone-in show, just like she had on degrassi.

*Mark* Wheels adoptive father is played by Dave James and yes, Sue
Johanson is Dr. Sally..She just came to speak at my University
(University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario)

I like the site that has been made...but in response to Bobby Millions.
 You
mentioned that there were no touch phones that were used throughout
both of
the series, but, I beg to differ.  I was watching an episode of DJH
today
and Kaitin and the girls had a slumber party. When they were making
prank
phone calls, Kailin dialed Ms. Avery's number and I noticed that it was
indeed a touch tone phone.

I just watched an episode of DJH on Showcase. It was the one where
Caitlin thinks that Joey likes her but he's really after Liz. In the
subplot Alexa tries to set up Michelle and BLT but she ends up hitting
on him instead. I was just wondering, were Alexa and Simon dating at
that point or were they just friends? I was confused because Alexa was
hitting on BLT right in front of Simon. I love Simon's character by the
way. Do you know the name of the actor who played him?

Hi again,
Mark I liked your comment "stereotypes are not always a bad thing" in
regards to the comment that was made about Bobby Millions. He is an
American who wondered why the characters on Degrassi never wore a
hockey
jersey once on the show.
Take Care,
Clayton
*Mark* Degrassi had more "U.S." cultural icons because it had hit a
larger market...earlier seasons were more local and later seasons even
endorsed products like Clear Tech Zit Cream, Skippy Peanut Butter, and
Unicef.
