Answer to our Trivia Question: Mr. Lawrence was seen in the show just once at the funeral scene when Wheels lost his parents. I got this answer from the 1988 Degrassi Student Newspaper.
Newsflash: DEGRASSI.CA *may* have to change back to DEGRASSI.ORG
I am going to try to keep my CA domain but I am just letting you know in advance. I cannot dislose the reasons right now. you can access the site and any of the email addresses with the "ORG" or "CA" suffix.

Hey! This is in response to some questions 'Bobby Millions' asked:
1.When the twins are bowling with the miniature bowling balls, it's
5-pin bowling. fewer pins, smaller bowling balls.
2. I would assume that the money they have is Canadian money...
3....uh...gas prices!!! They're higher now...what are gas prices like in
the US???
4. Actually, your right. I didn't see anybody with hockey stuff. I
seem to vaguely recollect Snake possibly wearing a Leafs jersey in one
episode, but I'm not too sure...I remember a lot of football stuff, but
that was all probably to help it sell to an American audience!
Anyone else have any ideas??

Someone recently brought up the movie Overnight Delivery, where Kevin Smith
was an uncredited writer. I'm not sure about the actual scoop, but I had
heard that he had written either the whole script or a good chunk of it.
Despite the fact he was uncredited, the fact that the lead character's best
friends were named Snake, Wheels, and Raditch were a dead giveaway...it's not
exactly his best work (I believe much was re-written) but it's worth
watching...as are all of his films. If there are any Degrassi fans from the
states who like Keving Smith, take a visit to Red Bank, NJ...he has a comic
book shop there work a look-see.

Hi again,
Just a few points this to mention this time. First, my favorite quote would
probably be in the episode "showtime" pt 2 (i think). It is close to the
end, in the scene where Caitlin is tutoring Joey and she said something
about space, to which he replied "Space can be very unreasonable, I learned
that by watching Star Trek." - from this I guess we can conclude joey is a
star trek fan...
The other point I felt was a valid one. It is well known that some of the
actors do not want to be reminded of the show. I think I have an
explanation. Type-casting. I (like a few of us) grew up with the show.
Currently I am 25 years old. A lot of the actors are equal to or up to 3
years older than I am. That would mean they are starting to push 30 years
of age. Who really wants to be reminded constantly of the work they did
when they were (nearly) half their current ages?
Just gives us something to think about.

Here is one thing that I look back at Degrassi and wonder about, their abilty
of the grand old telephone system. It seems like everytime a person called
up somebody on the phone, they all used the rotary phones and never a touch
phone. Afterall, I am sure that Canada had touch toned phones in the later
80's and early 90's. In fact I can't believe that nobody had ever used a

Heya Mark,
Just want to say how much I'm enjoying Degrassi Digest, it rocks. I've
already told several fellow Degrassi fans about it and they signed up, too.
My sister and I watched it all the time, every Monday. When I was in grade
seven it was THEE show to watch--everyone talked about it at school the next
day and wondered what was going to happen next. My teacher in grade seven
was actually my dad and he knew how much we liked Degrassi so he managed to
get all us students Degrassi newspapers with interviews with the actors and
everything. (I wish I kept mine!) I'm 23 now and my sister is 26 and we
still love it (I can't pick a fave--Snake, Wheels, Joey, Alexa, Spike....)
We can turn on an episode and I swear in like one second we know exactly
what episode it is and what's going to happen.
Someone asked in a past Degrassi Digest about Rick and whatever happened to
him--now I'm wondering, too. Anybody know?
I always laugh about how all the girls think Mr. Colby is goodlooking and
sexy. EWWWW! ICK!!
Paul Smith--I agree 100%.
Anyways, gotta go, thanks Mark, you're the king.

Date: Tue, 08 Feb 2000 09:32:04 GMT
Hi to EVERY Degrassi fan...
For Jenelle Cleary and anyone else who is interested in this never ending
saga of tracking down the mysterious Aussie 'School's Out' tapes.... the
'School's Out' tape was for hire only, but luckily I have two VCRs at home,
so I made a copy for myself. Excellent. My favorite part by far is when Joey
tells Wheels this:
Joey: "And then man.... we went... to the Zone."
Wheels: "Alright!"
Joey: "It was HOT!"
Wheels: "So..... how far'd ya get?"
Joey: "Third....... base.....!"
Ahh... classic stuff.
Maybe 4 or 5 yrs ago I saw the 'School's Out' tape was available to purchase
at most ABC Shops, but I highly doubt that now. I hope you can get your
hands on a copy Jenelle - it is CLASSIC stuff. I remember the first time it
was aired in Australia. The final episode was shown on the Friday in it's
usual slot of 5:30, then at 8:30 the old guy from the movie show was joined
by Tunny (LEGEND!!!) to introduce it. Top stuff. I remember thinking it was
THE GREATEST movie I had ever seen at that point... maybe it still is.....
And on another Degrassi-esque note... Press Gang was another show I was
brought up on by the ABC. Spike, Linda, Colin, the whole gang. What a show.
This website might interest people: http://www.pressgang.yoyo.org/pressgang/
Grange Hill... hmmm.. never really was truly inspired by that one... I just
found after being brought up on teenage school problems (Degrassi, Press
Gang - the Gazette was the school paper), I was kind of tired of the
turbulent teens formula. I am Foxtel (or Optus Vision for that
matter)-deprived, so I am missing some great shows I am sure.
Astro Boy... was a legend. Astro Boy and Voltron were my heros before I was
old enough to understand what Shane REALLY did to Spike at THAT party....
Here's a great Astro Boy link with LOADS of info:
http://www.zip.com.au/~astroboy/
Ok... enough of the off the topic stuff.... Degrassi is THE stuff. As much
as I would have scoffed at the idea at the time, Degrassi taught me more
lessons about teenage years that I could imagine. And I am sure that was the
underlying goal for 'Playing with time', so I am glad they reached their
goal and I bet they never dreamed that some 15 years later, 'grown ups' from
Australia, South America and where ever else other people are from on this
list, would be re-living their childhood memories of fond afternoons in
front of the television.
And finally... to Mark - I would just like to thank you for your great
operation of this list, and I am dumbfounded at the incredible amount of
Degrassi information you have in that head of yours. Impressive.. very
impressive.

Hello. Just a quick comment concerning Arthur in the "Dream On" episode
where he has a crush on Caitilin who is, at the time, involved with Joey
Jeremiah but has an insatiable lust for the smooth talking Claude
(appears from behind tree with a single rose, "For you"). I noticed that
after he wakes up from his second dream involving Caitlin and himself in
a romantic setting, he peers toward his midriff and exclaims, "Shoot". I
wonder if this is because the dream ended just before he and Caitlin had
the chance to express their feelings for one another, or because he has
covered himself with the fruit of his loins. He appeared a little more
exhausted than when he woke up after the first dream, and we are all
aware of Arthur's "problem" from the earlier episode when he calls
Dr.Sally. Secondly, I agree with the person who compared the way that
some people perceive the slew of "new" degrassi fans to bandwagon Manic
Street Preachers fans. It reminds me of the Sloan situation. Once they
became a "Big Shiny Tunes" band, they got this whole crew of fans who
couldn't tell you what the Peppermint e.p. was from a collection of
jockey shorts. When the transition was beginning, I would sit in front
of the T.v. and brood, hating the bouncy teeny boppers, Grinch-like. I
still think people who like Sloan because they are cute and have cool
hair are morons, but most of these people weren't old enough to
appreciate the kind of music they were making a few years back and i
could just as easily have been one of them had I not been so fortunate
to leave the womb when I did. Go 77! Go womb! Go Scooter, heh heh, wanna

this is in response to someone's post about
forshadowing, it started me thinking of other deeper
meanings in school's out, like symbolism. in the
beginning after joey proposes and caitlin turns him
down, then he ends up giving tessa a ride home, and
then he agrees to go on a date with her, after tessa
comes to his work to ask him out.... then caitlin
comes walking toward him and tries to give the ring
back, and after they make up he looks at his hand
(where tessa wrote down her number) and then back to
the box the ring came in, then he tosses the box into
the hand that the number is written on, like a big
symbol that he is going to try and go for both.
and another thing i noticed is when the movie goes
into scenes of joey with tessa and then with caitlin
at the beach. tessa is running after joey and then
joey is running after caitlin, like they are chasing
after something in their lives that is only going to
run away or fade away.
and about the people who mentioned the forshadowing,
that is great insight, i never noticed that before....

I thought that Nancy asked Caitlin for only 200 words. I think I remember
that because it was such a short amount. Then Caitlin wanted to write
this whole great manifesto to keep Spike in school, where if it was
200 words, she only could have managed about a few paragraphs. Can this
be counted as a blooper? Surely the writers knew what constituted 200
words!

Whatever happened with tessa and yick
and wouldnt snake notice that spike was at the last dance (in one last
dance?)
*Mark* Good point! I did not think that he would notice her when she said she was going to a famiy thing...Maybe he would realize that she did it because she knew that he liked Michelle and Michelle liked him. It is too bad there was no development between Tessa and Yick and Michelle and Snake.

Hi everyone. This is my first post to the digest, so here goes...
First of all, i wasreally disgusted by the ignorance of the poster in dd83
who said he was surprised that nobody wore a hockey jersey to school. Come
on!!! enough with the stereotypes! Hockey is everywhere, not just in Canada,
and you don't see kids everywhere else all wearing jerseys. oh well...
second thing, Rick was always one of my favorite characters. Did it ever say
what happened to him? I've seen every episode, am i just not paying enough
attention? or did i miss one?
My fave quote, Claude's giving Caitlin his other earing
Caitlin-"what's this"
Claude-"It looks like a box"

I Hate- Alex, Clode, Alexa, BLT, Aurthur, Rick, Voula, LD, Wheels, and

I think you all should give it a rest about Nichole Stoffman, I feel
that it is kind of obsesive about people who know brothers of a friend

My Favourite Quote:
From "Great Expectations"
Joey says to Liz: "You want it, I want it, let's do it!" and whips a condon out of his shirt pocket.
Too funny! I laugh every time I think of what a bad come on line that is!
I noticed that people often write about whether or not they think a Degrassi University years show would have worked. Some say yes, most say it would have spoiled a good thing. I'm for the latter, even though I would love to see new episodes of Degrassi. I am a firm believer that you should quit while you're ahead. I do think a University mini-series might have worked. I realize some people didn't enjoy "School's Out" because some of their favourite characters were given so little screen time, but perhaps the mini series idea would remedy this. Though expensive, I'm sure it would also give an opportunity to follow characters to 3 or 4 different cities. And the beauty of it would be that we'd all get a fresh does of Degrassi and yet things wouldn't have to get dragged out into ridiculousness (ie Bev Hills for the one millionth season.) But I gues it's too late to dream about this sort of thing, *sigh*. Now we could get a class of '92 10th anniversary high school reuion movie at best. Would any of you young-uns be interested in seeing that? You know: Joey and Caitlyn end up married after all, she's the bread winner and he's the stay at home dad. Wheels sends a "hello" letter to the reunion comittee from prison saying he gets parole in a few years. Emma turns out to be a rebelious teen. One of the twins is dying of a terminal disease. Duane has passed away from AIDS. And various other characters all have lives which are shaped around our current day social issues. Actually, maybe a show like this would be fun after all. I've got it! A mini series which includes everyone receiving their invites to the reunion at their respective new homes in various parts of Canada (and the US if we have to, ) right through to what happens at the party. I think it would need to include a few affairs and so on. And of course we'd need to see Joey's butt for old time's sake! Hee, hee.

I just wanted to make a comment, about the whole real fan thing in someones
email (Stephanie or Danny???) Not everyone got the chance to see Degrassi
before they were reruns, like myself. That does not mean that those people
are any less of fans than those of you who saw it from the start. Hey it is
a good show and I probably didn't watch it until they were in reruns when I
was younger. And if you honestly let people piss you off because they are
"rerun fans" what kinda fan are you, just because they share in a fondness
of DH you should like it! Honestly it is such a waste a time to complain
about stuff like this. Not to put ya down but seriously it is a tv show!!!!

I was wondering PAUL, where you came from with your analysis of my
hastily written comment? If you happen to look carefully at all the episodes
there is always some type of foreshadowing going on. Some people took my
comment completely out of context. Especially MANDY. I apologize for my
remark. It may not have been stated properly in a way for everyone to
interpret. There is no point to a character, its the points they make that
are important. All a character is, is a symbol to represent those who
identify with it. Every teen girl wants a boyfriend. You didn't say
anything when Heather makes out with Wheel's on the couch. Is she neurotic
because she wants to go out with Wheels so bad she throws a party? I don't
think so. You make it seem as though you are supposed to know you are a 14.
The time Degrassi focused on, is the age of cliques, humiliation, growing up,
friends, new experiences, and beginning to understand. Stephanie had some of
the worst experiences, but she had some good ones too.
What I MEANT (keyword meant) was that I thought Stephanie Kaye was cool,
no matter how screwed up she was. She was screwed up, I cannot argue that,
but at least I knew never to go out with a soap opera freak, lie about my
age, etc., etc.,etc. While on the subject of Paul's opinion, L.D didn't
exactly show a display of confidence. True strength, yes, but confidence no.
L.D was one of my favorites because she the female athlete, out there
beating the guys. BLT one the other hand was confident, but only because he
was fine and athlete of the year. Superficial reasons if you ask me. I know
what you are going to say. Wasn't Stephanie Kaye confident for superficial
reasons? Yes, she was. Nicole Stoffman wasn't though. She got on the
screen and portrayed the character we are debating right now. Without her I
wouldn't even have the pleasure of discussing her character's pros and cons.
In conclusion, my post is over.
Non-other than,
Andrea
*Mark* This is the last post for the Stephanie Kaye thread...There is too much analyzing going on..I think it is because we all see her for the first time since Degrassi and there is so much to see, to say, to analyze, to judge...you know...We cannot speak a million words from seeing someone for the first time in 8 years...for a talk show..She could have been nervous, anxious, hyper, on drugs, artificial, or simply genuine.

Hi, I'm Michelle and my friend Sam and I are OBSESSED with Degrassi. This is my first posting, as we both recently have discovered all the awesome Degrassi websites on the net. I first started watching Degrassi years ago when the original episodes aired. My teachers would show us episodes when they were too lazy to teach us anything. Conversations amongst students about drug use prompted a showing of the episode when Shane gets high on acid and jumps into the ravine; guidance counsellors showed us episodes depicting Stephanie Kaye's run as Class President to discourage careers in politics. Ever since I can remember, I've been learning from Degrassi both inside and outside the classroom.
The last episode of Degrassi aired when I was in my younger years, and I remember I was out when "School's Out" was on, so my Dad taped it for me. I watched about forty-five minutes of it until I couldn't stand seeing Joey and Tessa doing the nasty and hearing vile language come out of the mouths of the kids I admired any longer. I turned it off and didn't watch it again until last year, when it aired on Showcase. I also did not appreciate it until then. When I first watched "School's Out", I thought it totally betrayed every character it portrayed. Then I realized that the writers finally had the guts (and the timeslot) to let these kids be real teenagers, not edited for content teenagers. Sam and I watch "School's Out" regularly, and can recite most of it by heart.
Sam and I have also been hearing of different people's connections to Degrassi since renewing our love in it. Friends used to be babysat by Heather and Erica, one friend is cousins with Stephanie Kaye, and we recently spotted Dwayne at a restaurant and got his autograph!
Anyway, it's nice to see other people taking such an interest in what has become a Canadian classic. Good luck with the website, and keep watching Degrassi.

is that the guy who played Snake was given the choice, by the director, of
Snake or Stretch for the knick name of his character. Stretch was just gay
so he went with Snake, and aren't we happy about that?!

Dear Digest:
I can't believe no one has ever mentioned that "Todd" who was played by
Christian Campbell is the older brother of Neve Campbell. He played a
background character in the last season of DeGrassi High and he was Tessa's
boyfriend in School's Out. He's starting to get a little notoriety himself,
right now because he starred in the film TRICK. His picture and a very
approving critique of him as an up and coming actor was mentioned in People
and in this week's Entertainment Weekly. TRICK is a great movie, Christian is
very cute and looks pretty much what he looked like on DeGrassi. Everyone
should check it out. It's on video in the states.
Thank you

Hi, I just wanna say that the SCHOOL'S OUT movie rocked. I know I am a
little young to have seen the first broadcastings of the show, when the
actors were all like 14 years old and stuff, but I am still a HUGE fan!
When I got the SCHOOL'S OUT video I told my friend. First Me and her
watched it and were totally hyped up with it, so we watched it all night
over and over. Then the next day I told my other friend and she wanted
to see it, so I lent it to her. She told some people and now I got a
list of like, 20 people who want to see it.
I mean we are all in the 9th grade so we just started watching all the
episodes because we were like 4 and 5 when it was originally
broadcasted. So now, even though Everyone watches it, Nobody admits they
watch it, but we all do. WE ARE HOOKED! It just made me mad
(because I didn't see all the Jr. High episodes) that they played the
one episode when joey failed (i forget its name) and then the next day
they played the episode when BLT bets Joey that he can't get a date. I
mean I tape Every episode, and now I have to wait forever until the rest
of the episodes pass.
Any way
Thanks for listening
