Tommo, were you able to purchase it from ABC Video or was it for hire
only?
You deserve a medal for finding it!!

I was thinking that ok fair enough if the ABC doesn't ever want to show
Degrassi again - for whatever reason - but why doesn't some other
station
pick it up? Imagine it on Channel 10 at 6pm before Neighbours?

I think all the Aussies on this list should take over our TV
programming!
Yay!

I need a Degrassi fix bad... also Grange Hill is on Nickolodeon on
Foxtel
everynight now... the old and original episode. They also screen the
Press
Gang too... maybe they will one day show Degrassi. Me thinks I shouldn't
hold my breath tho!!!

Take Care !

All you good, good people,
I'd just like to respond to some of the comments made regarding "real
fans" and "not real fans." The anger some fans have toward others
reminds me a lot of the New Fans/ Old Fans competitiveness among Manic
Street Preachers fans. I don't know how many of you are familiar with
the Manics, so this may be redundant anyhow, but this applies here,
too. When the Manics achieved commercial success, they also gained many
fans. These New Fans were immediately resented by the Old Fans (who
considered themselves "real" fans), and understandably so. Glam kids in
tiaras, leopard skin and glitter resent Gap-khaki-bedecked jocks by
nature, not by choice.
HOWEVER (and herein lies the lesson we can learn), there's sort of an
understanding that the "young" fans can't be confused with the "new"
fans. The New Fans that upset the "real" fans are those that happily
listen to only the latest records and never bother to learn anything
about the band or the incredible music they made before 1996. The
"young" fans that care deeply about the band and all of their music are
pretty much accepted by the "old" fans.
So, I'd like to suggest to my fellow "real" fans who have been watching
Degrassi forever (I honestly can't remember a time in my life when I
didn't watch it... I was little when it started) that we all go a little
easier on the younger fans who are developing a deeper love for the
show.
The ones that probably piss you off (as they do me) are those that are
my age and older (mostly 17-20) who are "Rerun Fans." I'm sure you all
know a few people (or several) who were certainly old enough to watch at
least the start of DJH, but who didn't bother to tune in until this year
(and as we're all aware, this is not the first time that Degrassi's been
brought back in reruns, so there have been many opportunities to see
it).
The Kids are Alright, okcomputer? Let's give them a break.
Sorry this dragged on so.

well another fine degrassi quote i heard today,
said by scooter's friend in the episode they are trying to be cool like
Rick,

"boy's bathroom, after school, be there, or be a nerd!"

i also noticed that in the episode with the dance from the boys from st

"prude", much like the episode where suzie has a sleepover and Mealnie
suggests that she invite boys, kathleen then calls her a "sex starved

i was also wondering if any one knew what the story was on Rick, why
did he

Mark,
I just remembered this story and so I thought that I would share it
with you.
About eight years ago my brother was in Toronto hanging out with
his wife and her family. His wife's brother worked at some restaurant
(I can't remember the name of it) and quite a few of the characters
from Degrassi worked there. Anyway,
Joey Jeremiah was having a party one night and my brother's
brother-in-law asked him if he wanted to go to a party. My
brother was sort of interested and when he heard that it was at Pat
Mastrioni's house he really wanted to go.
At the party he was talking to Yik and when he(my brother) was
getting close to finishing his beer he said "Yik, can you grab me
another beer?" Yik said that it was a cardinal rule that no one was
aloud to call him that. He also said that Yik
got really wasted.
Anyway, that car that Joey drives on the show really is his (his
father's). It was sitting in the front and they bring it
in at night. Pat's father went out and said that he had to bring the
car in. My brother asked Pat why he did'nt just
bring it in to the garage for him and Pat replied "Oh no, that is his
baby".
I thought that was a good story because my brother got to party with
people who were (and appear to still be) Canadian
superstars.

I'm such an incredible Degrassi dag, that I've already compiled lots of
messages I could hear off the PA.

Dinner & a show - "Would nurse Silver please come to the principal's
office - and bring bandaids"

Twenty Bucks - "Martin Schlegel to the office"

Making Whoopee - "Ida Lucas to the office"

Bye Bye Junior High - "The final revision to the altered exam schedule
has
been changed" (LOL)

Dream On - "Drew Pearson to the office"

Everybody Wants Something - "Would the owner of the car 879 JAD please
remove their car from such and such a place" (not an exact quote
obviously,
further examination reveals this as Clutch's car)

Natural Attraction - "Kit Hood to the office"

Stressed Out - "Would Chris Perkins and Robert De Lint come to the
office"
"Would anyone finding a pair of glasses
belonging to Alex..."

Body Politics - "The custodian's toolbox has been glued shut..."

There's a lot more, like Lawrence's Thought for the day...like
Brotherhood
in He Ain't Heavy, and Honesty (?) in The Cover Up, and I remember
"Would Arthur Kobolowsky come to the principal's office, and bring
backup"
and of course the infamous Tuna Surprise announcement. And one about a
no
notices to be posted here poster.

I thought I had more of these written down - oh well.

Hi all. First time poster here so I hope I get it right. Anyways I
have to give the standard
thumbs up to you Mark. Great work! I was the self-proclaimed all
knower of Degrassi facts until I subscribed to your digest. I found that
this proclaimation may not have been 100% accurate! So my question for
you is in regards to Dwayne and Joey's ongoing feud. Are they not the
same age throughout the series? In the "Fight!" episode the fight
started when Dwayne overheard Joey trashing 8D ("d" for doorknob etc ...
), this was when Joey was in grade 8 too. Anyways, how can a grade ten
initiate other grade tens, meaning Snake and Wheels when they get to
highshool? I don't know, maybe he was just a big bully but they do
make it seem like he has been at Degrassi High for longer. Another
thing is that Tabi is older than Dwayne then because she was at the
party that Lucy had when no "niners" were allowed. So was she actually
best friends with a "niner at that point? Go figure.

My other observation is about School's Out. In the beginning at Lucy's
party when she says to Bronco (he's on the other side of the camera) "My
future's so bright I gotta wear shades" do you think this is a bit of
foreshadowing about the whole blindness thing? I also have to say that I
found the leakage comment hilarious and I never caught it either. I
noticed that he said leakage but never tied the two together.

One more thing, I know we're all sick to death of the Jonovision
comments but I do have to agree that when Nicole said her most
embarrassing moment was when Cathy sold her
oregano was the best part of the show.

*Mark* I agree with the comment about Lucy's future so bright, she has
to wear shades…Dwayne and Joey were in the same grade, but Joey failed
grade8 and we assume that Dwayne did not, as he went off to Degrassi
High school while the others stayed at Degrassi Junior High…as well, he
appeared to be older, so we can assume that he could have failed grade
8 before Joey failed. Honestly that storyline was never developed
enough to know Dwayne's exact age…He just appeared on Degrassi Junior
High in Season 2 just to beat Joey up, he was never in Season 1 or
Season 3. If you look closely, you will see Tabi in Season 3 at Borden
High school

Erica) are in grade 7 with Arthur yick and Caitlin
then in some later shows they are in grade eight with
LD and Lucy. Just a thought.
*Mark* Yes, the twins originally were in grade7, another interesting
fact that there were no original characters in the series that were
twins….This could be why one of the twins was called Stacie Farroll in
the first episode.

I'm glad that Degrassi did not continue into it's college years, and
the
reason for that is because if it had then the quality of the show would
have
most likely gone down. 90210 has been on for ten years and it isn't as
great
as it used to be, in fact it's so bad that Fox has decided to cancel
it.
And, The Saved by the Bell College years are no good. When a show is on
the
air too long, it's quality usually goes down which means it looses it's
fans
which means it's not as good as what it was before. This is my two
cents.

I cannot believe how many people write to this to criticize and condemn
both the actors and the characters they portrayed. This should be a
group for sharing ideas about issues raised within the series and
discussion of episodes that might have been. This should not be a free
for all to condescend the people involved in the series. Also, there
have been many posts about the "little raver kids" at the Reunion on
Jonovision. Just to let you all know, Raves are about Peace Love Unity
and Respect. Who is to say that younger people cannot enjoy the series
just as much or even more than people who were the same age when they
watched it. I think it is wonderful that the show appeals to all age
groups and that it provides hours of conversation. But i just can't
understand how any one who posts here can be so judgemental and
condescending when the lessons learned on the show explain why this
isn't useful. I'm sorry that i seem so bitter. i suppose it is
because i'm a stupid rave kid who spends all her money on college

Subject: Stephanie Kaye Confidence?
Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2000 17:27:21 +1030

I feel that I must make a reply to the comment made from Andrea in DD81
concerning Stephanie Kaye. In her e-mail she states that Steph was the
most
confident character in the series and she wishes that she had her "self
confidence and guts". I would like to hear everyone's opinion on the
subject, but I have to say that Andrea has missed the point of the
Stephanie
Kaye character. Surely Steph was very neurotic and was continually
willing
to forgo her own identity and subconsciously belittle herself. This was
seen
in her behaviour in her continuos effort to go out with Wheels, and the
way
she used Joey to get back him. Similarly when she tried to get Simon,
and
the battles she had with Alexia. The most classic evidence of her lack
of
confidence with herself was when she was prepared to pay or apparently
"fight to the death" with Alexia to get her clothes back that she gave
to
her before Simon arrived at school. Or the "Kiss for a Vote" for School
President. All of these things highlight the constant front or facade
that
she was putting on, to try to convince not just others of her well
being,
but more importantly herself. This was then developed in the later part
of
the series when she was still very low on self esteem and having given
up on
guys her age and the whole Degrassi scene, she then becomes obsessed
with a
"fantasy" guy on a TV serial. We all know what the outcome of that was,
and
the way she was virtually prostituting herself to get the attention.
I also think that the those people that are just seeing the show for the
first time or watching their fist re-run, that it is not just the
situations
she gets into, but really study the way she acts and behaves. Most
importantly though, with her character you must "read between the
lines".
And my theory to why she was so lacking in self esteem and was in a
continual search for a boyfriend. This must surely be due to the split
up
and divorce of her parents. I think the script writers did this
beautifully
with the parallel script of the lost dog that Arthur found. The analogy
being that Steph (and Arthur) were "lost" and didn't know where their
home,
and security would be. The divorce obviously had a huge affect on her
so she
was for ever trying to reassure herself, feel mature and feel safe. This
hole characterisation was brilliantly depicted in the suicide episode
were
she was found by Arthur on the swings in a playground. This showed that
she
wasn't really all grown up but was just a very lonely "child".
So guy's, tell me what you think of my opinion and keep the Degrassi
site a
bit more alive that the repetitive, shallow stuff.
So who do I think is Degrassi's most confident character?....I think LD
&
BLT are certainly on the list, but I'll have a good think and hopefully
read
all of you idea's before I give my final answer.

Cheers
Paul

remedy music video with the two girls earlier on - i've seen all the
debate
on this in previous digests ). but nothing is surprising in degrassi.

What does the word narbo mean?
I know it's a term for the younger kids on
Degrassi

*Mark* NARBO stood for The term N.A.R.B.O.S. is an acronym for "No
Acting
Required, Bowl of Soup".
This was taken from the Kit Hood interview part 2 from Degrassi Legacy.

Did anyone ever notice that in School's Out, when Wheels is in jail
after
driving drunk, Joey comes to visit him and they have to talk on phones
because there is supposedly glass to separate the inmates from the
visitors,
but Wheels actually puts his hands through the bars where the glass is
supposed to be, so there isn't really glass and there is no reason for
them
to have to use the phone to talk. Just thought I'd share that. Oh yeah,
another thing about School's out. I was just wondering if it was shot
in
Toronto like the series was, because it looks like some of the
characters
(like Joey and Caitlyn)
live in different houses than they did on the series.

Did anyone ever notice that in the episode of Degrassi High when Joey
makes
Snake use his fake ID to get beer for Lucy's party, the name he uses is
John
Bertram, whose name appears on the credits of Degrassi!!!
*Mark* John Bertran was a writer for the series and he played Mr.

I was watching the first episode of Degrassi Junior High and while Joey
and
some other guy were putting Arthur in the locker Joey refers to Arthur
as a
Girp. What the hell is a Girp? Any suggestions?
And what was with people calling each other "Broomheads?" Most of the
time
this term was used, the person on the receiving end of this "insult"
had
short hair! And Mr. Lawrence's announcements are hilarious - I've
never
really noticed them before. "Will Arthur Kobalowski please come to the
Principal's office immediately!" I think I've heard that one a number
of
times - Alex Yankou (THE MAN) was always getting called down there too,
for
his glasses and other stuff. That's all for now - see ya. Max

Hi. My name is Amanda Campbell. I'm a Degrassi High/ Jr. High Fan and
also
in the acting biz, just starting out. I loved Amanda Stepto's portrayal
of
Spike in the show. I was wondering if you had any way for me to be able
to
tell her this, an address of some sort. I'd really like to write her a
letter and tell her how much Spike's character has affected me through
the
years.
Thanks a lot,

Hi!

In the last digest, someone asked when CBC will stop airing Degrassi.
Well,
I'm not too sure about that, but I know that Showtime will be showing
DJH @
7:00, and DH @ 7:30. (that's eastern time, other times might vary!)

Anyway, I just wanted to say that the site and the show are awesome,
and
keep up the great work!!!

Hey i love Degrassi!!! Today I was watching and it was the one where
Joey
had the Bad news about failing grade 8, and at the end I just though it
was
funny that when they were doing their song you hear wayne in the
background
yell out, give it up Jeremiah, there is probally more things like that
but
thats all i know right now, it's not much but i thought that was kinda
funny

Also this is a question for Mark: what is the name of
the song we hear in one last dance ,while Caitlin is
waiting for joey and, at that time he's talking with
Dwayne in the bathroom. (The song just before the
publicity)

Do you know any site that have School's out pictures?
Thanks and keep up the great job!!!!
