Thanks for the all the fun PA announcement from Mr. Lawrence.
Trivia Question: Has Mr. Lawrence ever been seen on film?
Submit answers to me if you like. The answer will be on the next
digest.

The Stephanie Kaye/Nicole Stoffman is over.I would ask that there can
be no more posts on this topic. It has been exhausted. Thank you.

News: Beverly Hills 90210 and Party of Five have been cancelled. This
is because Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green left the show, as well
as Guelph, Ontario native Neve Campbell who also is planning to leave
the show.

Some other news from Amanda Ryan:

I just got the information from the Jonovision site:
the reunion will re-air on FEBRUARY 17TH and 18TH!
Don't miss it!

Hi Mark,
Here's a quote from Spike in "Great Expectations": "Why do people who
look
different always have stories made up about them?" And from "Dinner and
a
Show", an announcement over the loudspeaker: "Our thought for today is
friendship. On the stormy sea of life, it's the one ship that keeps us
all
afloat!"
Oh, and did anyone else ever notice that the voice of Lucy's mother on
the
telephone answering machine sounds an awful lot like Spike's mother's
voice?

I don't know if anyone posted this before, but there is a movie called
"Overnight Delivery" with Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd. Well the
movie
was written (uncredited) by Kevin Smith, who is well known for being

Hi, there.
It' s great news that all the "Degrassi" episodes are finally out on
video.
But I think the company who brought them out should have released them
on DVD instead/as well.
With the massive space on these discs, it would' ve been a better deal
for everyone. -More episodes would fit on each disc, and the whole
series would be
available more compiled and sooner than just a few at a time on each
tape.
Wheels fans might want to check out a nice song called "Wheels" by the
great band "Kansas", only available on their 2-cd best of boxed set.
Bye-bye.

I know I'm a little young to be an original Degrassi Fan, but I am a
huge fan!
The best part of my days are comin directly home from school and turnin
on to Degrassi!
I think the show is so realistic, and teaches lessons! I love Bill
Parrot (Shane) and I totally cried when he went missin after the
Gourmet Scum concert!
I think that CBC should keep Degrassi on for a long time! My whole
family just love this show!
I saw pictures of Nicole Stoffman on Jonovision, and I don't really see
whats wrong with her? I know she looked like Grandma-ish, but did you
expect her to look like Stephanie in real life 13 years later?
Well,
that's all I gotta say for now!

1. thanks Mark for your patience (ie. what is Degrassi? Is it a tv

2. Please NO MORE STEPHANIE KAYE slams...it got old about 4 weeks

3. Has anyone noticed that Michelle has a different father in some DJH
episodes? For example, her father used to have grey hair and mustache,
then the later actor was younger w/ Dark hair.
4. Does anyone remember the national "Mr. Big"(i think) commercials from

and they were pizza delivery guys?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

i listen to talk radio a bit and this seems o be the #1

also in this episode. after Joey wakes up from his nightmare about Duane

Hi,

Nobody has mentioned that the device of *strange* PA announcements was
borrowed from "MASH" (both the original film and the telly
series), and one of my favourites was when "Dr Donald Westphall" (from
"St Elsewhere") was paged in one Degrassi show where they were at
a clinic, which I'm pretty sure was St Michael's Hospital (the Albany
clinic on Danforth near Broadview was also used in some shows) -

I'm a 39 year old fan of Degrassi, and back then I also enjoyed "Square
Pegs", and I am a devoted fan of "My So-Called Life", and now I am
enjoying "Freaks and Geeks" on NBC.

I lived in Toronto all my life until this year when I moved to Phoenix,
Arizona, so I DO miss seeing Degrassi regularly, but I don't miss the
snow.

While I was still back home, I managed to tape about twenty or so
Degrassi episodes, to feed my need.

Keep up the great work.

-Shell

Subject: Nicole, again...
Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2000 12:07:43 -0500

this is getting kind of ridiculous, but i've got to explain something
here...

j. somervile:

you are continuously speaking of nicole stoffman's jonovision
appearance in
terms of her gender--assuming that people are thinking "females arn't
supposed to act like *that*", etc. when *i* commented on nicole's
appearance, it had absolutely NOTHING to do with her gender. i assure
you,
if it had been "snake"--a male--who had been acting trippy, i would've
commented on *him*. most people feel she was being a bit
spacey--obviously
you don't agree, but something must have been going on there if so many
people are commenting on it--so we're questioning it. NOT in terms of
"oh
my, she's a woman, she isn't supposed to act like that!", but in terms
of
"hmm, she seems a little out of it"--*that's all*. i really don't think
this
is an issue of gender, which is what you want to make it out to be.

as for why we didn't question "dwayne's" behavior, acting out in mock
violence against "joey"--we wouldn't comment on it because it was
obviously
in reference to the character he played on the show. i think most of us
would have figured that one out.

as for posts on nicole's "hair" and "make up"--i apologise; as a new
member
i must have missed those ones. the only posts i read were from people
who
commented on her BEHAVIOUR --not her looks, her hair, her lack of make
up,
whatever.

listen, i'm really not here to argue with people--we're all fans, we all
want to share our love of the show, etc. i just find it a little
worrysome
when we look at things in terms of gender when (IMHO) that's not really
the
issue. save the gender analysis for when it really *does* relate
(--there's
the women's studies major in me coming through!)

and hey, i *didn't* contradict myself--i loved that nicole didn't wear
make-up, or act like "stephanie kaye" (meaning she didn't act in a
traditionally "feminine" manner)--but yeah, i did question her
behaviour--not as a woman, but as a human being. and so what if i didn't
like that sweater! :)

maybe that's just how nicole is--whatever!--it was just a bit odd. i'm
not
even concerned with it anymore. best of luck to her, and everyone else
in
the cast that gave me so many years of good, fun viewing.

sorry for the mega-long post, everyone
mandy

Why did the Zit Remedy only have one song for the entire 5 year run?
You
think these kats could have came up with at least one more tune. I
mean how
many times can you play one song, before one band gets tired of it.
Here
were some other odd things that us PBS watchers noticed down here in
the
States back then.

1. The episode when the twins went bowling, they had those little
bowling
balls. What the hell were those things? In fact, I still don't have
any
idea what type of bowling that is. When I am up in London, I ask my
girlfriend to take me to one of those mini-bowling lanes, and she has
no clue
where one is.

2. Whenever the pass cash around, you notice for a quick second that
it is
not the same kind of green they have in the US. Also, you see the old
Canadian One Dollar Bill, but only for a second or two.

3. When Wheels was kicked out of his granparent's place, he walks by a
gas
station and you can read the gas prices in liters, I think it was 47.8
or
something. Another oddity for a 13-year-old kid living in the US,
thinking
what kind of prices are those?

4. When I realized it was from Canada, I wonder why no kid wore a
hockey
jersey to class. I know the show was made to make it more universal,
but
come one, someone in the cast must have had a Leafs or Blue Jays caps
in
their collection.
