RE: The thread about Nicole Stoffman's behaviour on Jonovision.
Let's stop ganging up on her. Maybe she is simply a free spirit who is hyper and cheerful...Maybe this is her personality....
Just one question about Dayo Ade, he said he lives in L.A., but what is HE DOING there?
Does anyone his profession?
News: Thanks to "Boodoosingh" for the following information.
This is for that Mark guy that wanted to know the name of the song at the end of "The All Nighter"; it was To feel the feeling
by Coney Hatch (a great Canadian band)
DJH will be on CBC on the weekend, Saturday mornings!
You do not need to email complaints to CBC.

Hi there,
Who can answer this question ?
In the Degrassi high introduction i can see two scenes and i wonder from
which episodes are they taken:
1- Clutch's car is bumping into the students bikes.
2- Arthur find his new bike coverred by "glue" (or anything else,i don't
know what it is...)
*Mark* They do not belong to any episodes...Arthur's bike gets stuck with peanut butter...LD kicks hte soccer ball, and Clutch's car that bumps into the student's bikes, (Please note that those shots were only for the Degrassi High intro theme song, but those shots were not inspiring enough for the show. They could not develop into plots..PWT thought that Arthur would get bullied by having peanut butter all over his bike, but Duncan Waugh grew up too fast, so his character could not be bullied.

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knew what Kathleen was up to lately? A few
years ago I used to see her around McGill, but I assume she must have
graduated. I think someone told me she was in Sociology. It was always quite
the big excitement when we'd see her on campus. My friend Peter would always
come to class and say, "guess who I saw today...the Degrassi Girl!" and then
everyone would be jealous that he saw her! There were a lot of old Degrassi
fans at McGill then I guess! Anyway, just wondering.
The new format is great. Thanks!

Wassup, all!
In response to a recent question: Yes, Anais "Lucy" Granovsky was on OWL TV back in the day. She was one of Dr. Zed's child assistants. I think she may have been one of the Mighty Mites as well. They were 3 kids who shrank so that they could see the wonders of nature close up. (Man, I'm surprised I remember this stuff after all the abuse I've heaped upon my brain cells since I started University 4 yrs ago!!!! ;) )
She was also in a Kish video from the early 90's. Remember Kish? He was a cheesy Canadian rapper. I think the song was called "Let's Do It", or something.
And Mark- what's up with the ad at the bottom of Digest #79? Does it come automatically with the eGroups service? I don't knwo about anyone else on the list, but I don't like e-advertising, especially when it's tacked on to the bottom of an important email. If it's impossible to remove, I guess I can live with it.
Peace Out.

*Mark* Sorry, but I need to have this list with an advertising so it stays free...Maybe when I have more money, I will pay money so the ad will disappear..We have 1878 people on the list so it is hard to handle all the email addresses....I am sorry about the ads.

I just finished reading Stephen Brogren's article on his life as a Canadian
superstar and must say that I was thoroughly entertained. Snake has always
been my favorite Degrassi member. How about the time that he helped Melanie
muster up some courage and just go on out there and swim that race even if
they might call her names. What a guy, i swear, that was one of the sweetest
moments on Degrassi. Does everyone remember the episode that Joey and Wheels
spend the night at his house and you got to see Joey in his underwear and
Snake without a top. I'm blushing just thinking about it. Some people wrote
of being surprised at how hot Stephen looked on Jono but he was a cutie back
in the day too, a little awkward but still a cutie. Sorry to ramble about
this but Degrassi Love is something that I don't get to share 'cos not many
people I know like it but now I have a place to go where everybody knows my
name or at least relates to my obsession.

Road is pretty gay but I'm glad Showcase is interested. First, I am a real
hardcore Degrassi fan from the first to last episode and I must say many
fans can agree when I say that the Allnighter episode was the best. Just the
way the guys at Luke's are commenting about girls they like was "fabulous"
(Joey's word). And yes Maya does "have nice eyes" according to Yick. Wasn't
Yick at his best when him and ALex were about to fight over Tessa at the

I've had two sightings of Degrassi stars, I went to UWO and Tessa was in my
first year geography class, it was a very large class but she attended a
few tutorials that I was in that were around 25 people. Of course I was
too scared to talk to her. Also at UWO I saw Lucy (from Kids of Dregrassi
Street) who played Susie from Degrassi Jr High, it was on the Wonderland
bus going to school, I don't know if she was a student at UWO or just
visiting friends.
Is any channels airing Kids of Degrassi Street? Showcase used to show it
when it first became a channel. That show rocked too!! I only have one
episode of it on tape, the one where Billie does the speedbump. Is Cookie
from Kids of Degrassi Street Michelle from Degrassi High?
When I first moved to Toronto I went to Degrassi Street and took pictures,
of the variety store and even the manhole covers used in the beginning of
Kids of Degrassi Street. I'm glad there's so many others who love the
series as much as I.

SOme things I don't miss about Degrassi: Arthurs beret, someone (usually
Arthur) singing "I'm Phylis, I'm Fran, we're going south to get a man" at
their talent shows, Caitlin's dancing (in the episode where Claude auditions
for the talent show and they don't like his poem), that whiney girl who was
a friend of Claudes and thought it was her fault that he killed himself... I
know, how can I pick faults with Degrassi? I'm just trying to console myself
and try to convince myself I'm not missing out on anything by not being able
to watch it anymore.
Someone told me that Snake was in "The 3 Canadians" comedy act. Is that
true? Because I saw their show once (very funny) but I'm sure I would have
notice if it was Snake.

After all this talk about "School's Out" can I just warn people that it's a
HUGE disappointment! I searched every video store in Melbourne for it, maybe
when I finally found it I was expecting to much and too hyped up from
finally catching my prey, but it is a little dull and none of the best
characters are in it (Trish, Liz). Alright so it does have one irritatingly
enjoyable song in it, and anything with Joey Jeremiah in it is
brilliance...still I was disappointed. Or maybe it was just because it was
finally an end to something that should never, never end and it's absolute
madness that Australian are being deprived of watching it.
While I'm on the subject (sort of) was anyone else's favourite character
Trish? That wimpy voice, the way she never got to be the star, the
surprising mohawk?

I was just writing because every time I come across the first season of DJH,

was Stephanie Kaye so appealing? She was missing a tooth wasn't she?
And last but not least-there was an episode where Melanie wanted to go to
the Gourmet Scum concert w/ Snake but didn't have the money so she tried to
borrow some from friends, well anyways, who is the girl that she asked and
she replied, "my allowance is on a diet." Just wanted to know cause she
looked so sweet and cute, but in Degrassi High she had a blazing two foot

After reading everyone else's "sightings" i totally forgot about mine!!
It was about 3/4 years ago. The day was bright, the air warm.... my younger
sister was in a modelling competition at 'Atlas' (its a bar somewhere in TO!)
We got there 3 hours in advance (not to miss a single thing!!) My then
bestfriend and i were checking out the hotties, who by the way, were totally
ignoring us! (i dont know why, its not like the room was filled with gorgeous
model girls all decked out!) and guess who i saw walking down the street in
my direction?!!?! none other than........"Bronco" !!!!!! i was so hyper!! i
grabbed my bud and we stared like two little children in a candy store! (sad
and pathetic...i know) i lost sight of him when we went inside until the
competition was about to begin!! he stood in a doorway off to the side of the
patio!!! me, being the naturally born stalker that i am, all decked out with
my spy tech, and started snapping pics!!!! The competition went on, my sister
didnt win and i was in my own little world, clutching my camera tight!
It wasnt until i developed the pics (yes, the next day!!) that i noticed
it!.............. I HAD BEEN SPOTTED!
in "bronco's" place was a black void! he had seen me and backed out of the
way so i couldnt nab a picture! what a sad day......
so, Mark! whatever happened to him???

To some of the subscribers of Degrassi Digest,
Take an afternoon to browse through the various Degrassi web sights before
posting a silly question to which most people know the answer.
It's great that so many people have recently discovered Degrassi, but, PLEASE,
don't torment us with questions like "What's School's Out? Somebody tell me
what happens in it." See, if you'd done your research, you'd know what
School's Out is, and you'd have read a plot summary of the movie. Degrassi
has so many die-hard fans, many of whom who've made web shrines, so I hate to
think that the knowledge they have to share with the world is going to waste
simply because some people can't take time to browse the web.
And I can only IMAGINE what Mark's going through. (Dude, you are a genious -
a patient, committed, hard-working saint, and I thank you for putting up with
us and our dumb questions).
And something else...Please, no-one make fun of how Stephanie Kaye looked at
the Jonovision reunion. She is not "out of it" or "on drugs." When I saw her
walk out on that stage, I thought "Right on, Woman!" As Stephanie, she was a
confused kid, making up for her lack of self-confidence by trying to be sexy.
But now, she's a woman, brave enough to be make-up free and act however she
wants to act, rather than playing the "femimine" role that us women are told
to play. So she didn't want to sit there, docile and pretend to be cute.
Stephanie Kaye was just a character she played a long time ago, so don't
expect her to be the same sexpot in real life, 13 years later. She made a
comment on the show, which was brushed off, of course, something like:
"There's more than just sexual power." No-one seemed to validate this
comment, but I want to take her and drive around Toronto with a megaphone and
tell all the Britaney Speers(sp?) and Stephanie Kaye wanna-bes that they're
just wasting their time trying to be popular by looking cheap.
Later.

I saw Dayo Ade (BLT) on a '93 episode of Kids in the Hall the other night on
the Comedy Network. I'm not sure if I missed this on the websites or these postings
because I never heard of him being on there before. He played a gay manservant
in a loin cloth to the recurring gay character on the show Buddy Guy (Scott
Thompson). It was a 30 min. skit about gay guys in the north, the Queen, an
adopted son/talking beaver and 2 cour de bois that had french accents but couldn't
speak french. It was very funny. Unfotunately, it did not list the extras at
the end of the show so I did not see his name but I was sure it was BLT.
Cheers!

Happy Greetings Everyone!!
I must first sympathise with all of the postings of disappointment that CBC will be taking Degrassi off the air....but don't fret!!! CBC still plays Degrassi on Saturday mornings...back to back episodes at 10:00 and 10:30....
ALSO....Showcase is going to begin showing Degrassi again!!!! I believe it starts next week...back to back episodes at 7:00pm and 7:30!!! i'm really looking forward to that!
I would like to commend Amber Milley on writing to CBC about Degrassi being replaced with Road to Avonlea....do you have the ADDRESS for CBC so that i could also write in.
I would also like to write to both CBC and Showcase to ask if they could air "School's Out" and "The kids Of Degrassi Street"....a friend of mine wrote to Showcase asking them to air "School's Out" and they said they didn't have the rights to it...but they've played it before...maybe if enough of us write in they'll buy the rights!

hi everyone! first time posting!
i used to watch degrassi religiously, but i live in detroit, mi and only get
to see it on CBC 9 when they decide to run it. degrassi is the only reason i
ever watch channel nine, since they stopped running "fame" about a decade
ago. i hadn't seen degrassi in years, and one day last week while scanning
excite.com's tv listings i saw it. degrassi high, two episodes at four pm on
channel 9. right on! as luck would have it, it was 5 minutes to four when i
saw this, so i immediatly turned off the damn computer and turned on the tv.
my antenna sucks so its hard to get 9 these days but with a bit of playing
with it, i got the signal. what do you know, it's the first episode i ever
saw when i first discovered degrassi all those years ago! the one where liz
gets to go to the pogues concert (does anyone else remember them besides
people who watch degrassi?) well i'm rambling, but like everyone else i am
lamenting the fact that CBC is cancelling it again. (and just when i had
found it again! dammit!)
from degrassi digest #79: joey had two beers and was totally wasted!! But
I
don't know this for sure as the source was a pot smoking, acid taking
burn-out!
wow. i'm a pot smoking, acid taking burn out too! thanx for acknowledging us
in your little way. (cough).

hi,
i've only seen schools out once, and that was way back in '93, so pls excuse
if this is inaccurate. i seem 2 recall that caitlin graduated in the same
year as snake and co. y is that so? i thought that caitlin was always a
year behind snake and the twins etc, and was in the same year as melanie and
kathleen.
also, for those degrassi fans who don't live in canada, could u please put
on u're site a detailed write up of the degrassi reunion on jonovision, and
also pictures from it?
thanx

Hello,
This may sound a bit weird, but what the heck is Jonovision? A TV show
or a TV channel? In Montreal we get CBC and Showcase, so I can see the
reruns, but I haven't seen the degrassi reunion. If there's a rerun
in march, like someone said, I don't want to miss it this time. So,
if anyone can answer this question I would appreciate it!! :)
Thanks
Frederic Renaud
*Mark* I used to live in Montreal, so if you check on any CBC station..in Montreal cable 13, channel 6 on the TV (without cable), you can find Jonovision, a TV program that is youth oriented, geared towards teenagers with Canadian celebrity guests and cultural and educational content...within a wacky and dynamic kid-like context...hosted by Jonathan Torrens.

Everyone familiar with the episode where Heather is
all upset because Erica is seeing another guy?
Heather is still affected by the abortion her sister
had awhile back, and she gets upset at the dance when
she catches Erica and the guy (Blaine) kissing on the
stairs. Just thought I'd let you guys know who Blaine
is. His name is Tory Cassis, an excellent
singer-songwriter- guitarist from Toronto. I became a
fan of his and saw him four times opening for my
favourite band (Moxy Fruvous) before my friend chrissy
informed me that he was on Dgrassi High. He was a
tall lanky geeky dude on that episode (who only had
one line, if that), but trust me, he's ALL growns-up
now :D
Anyway, he is one amazingly talented individual and I
thought I'd throw props to him here. He has a rich,
incredible voice and plays with a swingy/ska-ish
backup band on Saturdays at 9 at the Reservoir Lounge
in Toronto. If any TO people are looking for
something to do I strongly recommend checking him out.
He has also appeared on Open Mike with Mike Bullard
twice, and he has an awesome video called "Sunrise"
that plays a lot on MuchMoreMusic in Canada.
Sorry for the off-topicness but I just really enjoy
Tory Cassis and think that many of you would too; i
figure you'd have great taste in music like you do in
TV shows ;)

Hey there Degrassi fans!
I was wondering if anyone else out there remembers the collector cards which featured various Degrassi characters? Actually the cards had info. on the actors and not really about the characters. These were featured on boxes of Quaker Dips bars, several years ago. It was sometime during the "Degrassi High" years. I was looking through a box of old papers and found some of these cards. The cards I have are: "Joey", "Snake", "Wheels", "Caitlin", "Tabi", "Kathleen", "Yick", and "Diana". I am sure there were other cards distributed but unfortunately I wasnt able to collect them all! Does anyone know/own any of the other cards in the series?

Hi,
I'm a new subscriber to the list and I'd like to say I have enjoyed reading the latest digests (as well as catching up on the ones in the archives!). I just wish I had discovered the digest sooner!
Mark, I think you mentioned in the latest mailing that the "Degrassi Talks" books are not sold anywhere. Or did I misunderstand? Anyhow, I was browsing www.chapters.ca and www.indigo.ca today and found that the set of 6 books are sold online. I can't remember for sure if each store had all six (although I can check again). They sell for $4.95 each (or less if you have a membership card for the store) although there were also some for $14.95, which had the same title. I dont know what the difference (besides the price, duh) is. I was actually looking for the DH or DJH books but couldnt locate them on either of these sites. Has anyone been able to locate them anywhere else? I'd prefer ordering from a Canadian store.
Well, thats all for my first post. I have some other thoughts I would like to post but I'll put them in separate messages. Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to the next issue!
Jane

in response to "ryan" from last week's post, i think one of degrassi's funniest moments came from the same episode (spike applying for a PT job), but just a few moments later :
when spike joins liz outside the restaurant / diner and complains that she didn't get the job b/c of her hair, liz gets all pissed off and says "let's come back tonight and throw a brick through his window"--*that* comment never fails to crack me up! GO LIZ!!!!!!
*also, in response to fans commenting on nicole ("stephanie kaye") and her jonovision appearance--i agree. what the hell was up with her?! she was just...wierd. kinda creepy. it was like she was trying to be funny but it was just embarassing.
and i don't mean to be overly critical, but her outfit...well, it kinda looked like something your parents would dress you in when you're a little kid and you haven't any power to protest! i mean, was that a *winter scene* depicted on her sweater, or something?! ...yikes.
*on a kinder note, i thought rebecca ("kathleen") looked great--she seemed kinda shy, but that's sweet. and cathy ("liz") just looked faaaaaaaaaaaantastic! i know i said it before, but i have to say it again...she's just the coolest :)
take care, everyone!

Hey Mark,
I am really enjoying the Degrassi Digest updates that you send via email. I
had no idea that there were so many Degrassi fans out there. The cool thing
is, there are seasoned "vets" and new viewers all sharing the enjoyment of a
great show. I am 32 and watched the series from beginning to end and still
enjoy it but the scary thing is my kids are watching it now too!
Keep up the good work

Hi,
Nice to know I'm not the only one who thought Stephanie Kaye was acting like
a snotty self-centered idiot on Jonovision. Everything she did was like,
look at me! Look at me! Where'd she get the sweater--did she steal it out of
the 80's Degrassi wardrobe department? And comb your hair next time you're
on TV!
Rebecca Haines looked great, everyone else did, too, but it was neat to see
Rebecca with a smile on her face and her hair all nice (Kathleen always
looked like such a bitter person!)
Does Playing With Time have any plans for a Degrassi reunion show? It could
bring us up to date on what happened to the gang 8 years after School's Out.
Like, where would Spike be now? What happens to Wheels after the accident?
Does Lucy turn out okay? Does Snake finally get laid and if so, who is he
with? (Hopefully Michelle!) What happens with Tessa? Does Joey hit stardom
and get back together with Caitlin?
Does Simon get sick of Alexa bossing him around and divorce her? There are
so many things they could do with a reunion show. But I bet alot of the
actors wouldn't want to do it, maybe for fear of typecasting or because they
are involved in bigger better things or their own lives.I hear Neil Hope
wants to put his Degrassi days behind him. I wonder why. Did he come to
resent Degrassi in the end? I heard he and Stacie (Caitlin) were living
together (platonically) when the show was finished.
Anyhow, keep up the good work Mark.

on Jonovision...she seemed totally different and grown up! I totally dig her
now!
Also everyone seems to write about Lucy and all the stuff shes been in, so i
figured id share too...She has a small part in the movie "deceived" which i
found funny...
another thing Mark or anyone...Who sings the song in "schools out" when
theyre all at the cabin and snake saves the girl who was drowning in the
water?

as i was watching degrassi, i found bloopers!!! and they are funny when you
think about it!!!
~in the first season, all the kids of degrassi were friends!! but in the
second season they don't even talk to each other!!
~why would snake and the twins, emily and heather, have couches out side on
the their porches? rain and snow would get on it!!!! and it would become
wet!!
~when joey, snake, and wheel's are doing their music video, you can hear
joey playing the keyboard when they were up in the window!! you really have
to listen, he's pressing down on the keyboard, and it's not even on!!!!
~in the first few episodes, the degrassi kids had a hang out place, just
like, "save by the bell" with "the max", and so on, and so on, anyways, the
degrassi crew decided not to have a hand out place because they wanted to be
original!
