A Belated Happy New Year to Jewish Subscribers!
Sorry for being late. The Digest is not dead!
There was SO much going on.
We had our Degrassi Convention and it was a success. Our event made it to
the Front Page of the Toronto Star. Thanks to EVERYONE who came. It was
great to finally meet you Natalie and Scott and all the other subscribers.
Natalie and I would like to thank everyone who came. Without you, this
event would not be an event. We would also like to thank the following
people: Kit Hood, Michelle Goodeve and Glenn Norman, The Woods Family,
Roger Montgomery and Lisa Lawson, Byrd Dickens and Heahter Schramm, Darrin
Brown, the Keenan Family, and Laurie and Cory Mistysyn for attending the
convention. After I stayed in Toronto for just 14 hours, Natalie and Scott
generously gave me a lift back to Montreal from Toronto. I moved to London
(Ontario) a couple of days later and I am sorry for not sending out Digest
earlier. Check out our Convention article below
http://www.degrassi.ca/Press-Releases/degconv990823.htm
I have been getting A LOT of e-mail re: Australian Man "Stalks" Sara
Ballingall. I would please ask of you to not post this thread to the
Digest since this is getting out of proportion.
I do not feel it is right to gang up on one person whether the fact is true
or not.
If you want to hear both sides of the story, you can browse through the
Press Releases section of DEGRASSI.CA

Thanks for reading this,

It seems that we're all missing the whole point behind Yick's saying of the
'Maya's uslessness in the wheelchair-nice eyes' thing.
What I get from it is that he's refering that sexually she'd be not as good
as a girl who's standing on 2 legs... I don't know.. That's how I
translated it the first time I saw it, and that's still how I see that
comment.
It's not that he's saying that she's not an okay person, but he's a teen
guy, looking for a girl to do sexual things with (as all teens are) so yes.
Am I making sense here?
~Paige :)
PS~ everyone have fun at the convention, I wish I could be there!

It might be interesting to note that the best thing to happen to Degrassi
ever, Patrick, has a life past the show. (Wheels not withstanding.) The
young actor (whom I believe was named Vince Walsh) was in the later episodes
of Degrassi High. He was that Irish Hooligan dude who played the Guitar and
had the hots for Spike and that chelsea girl. He is now doing a kids show
for Fox called "The Mystic Knights Of Teir Minogue" or something like that.
It's pretty cheesy but If I were a kid I would have eaten it up like cotton
candy at a carnival. It is ancient Irish Knight done in a power rangers
stylee.
P.S. If the contest was to find the most outrageous and un-pollitically
correct line, the "Nice eyes, shame about the wheels" would probably indeed
be the best. It can easily be construed as offensive and I think does more
damage hurting the feelings of the handicapped than demonstrating the
ignorance of people like "Yick"
Mark has a point in his ultra political stance (He is our leader afterall,
he has to uphold virtue) but I have to say that when you hear the line, you
can't help but frown in a smirkish way, exhale air through your mouth in a
kind of chuckle and exclaim "what on earth were those guys thinking" whilst
slowly shaking your head.

Subject: Maya's eyes
Hi All,
This is my first time writing.
I haven't seen the show in years, but when it was still airing I
was really heavy into it. I mean, I used to watch the same episode
three times in one weekend because the show was on three different
tv stations in my area. I'm from Baltimore, and I would watch the show
on Saturday mornings on my local PBS station and then watch it again on
one of the Washington D.C. stations at 6 that evening. On Sunday
mornings,
it would air again on a different Washington station, and I would watch
that also. This was all BEFORE I had a VCR so, now looking back on it,
I wish I had a chance to record all those shows. :(
And then when I finally got a VCR the show stopped airing.
One comment about the line
"Too bad Maya's in a wheelchair, she has really nice eyes".
That girl really did have nice eyes!!!
I remember when I first saw that episode because I was like nodding my
head agreeing with Yick. Even before he said that, I used to think she
had nice eyes!
Peace,
Maurice

I was going over my tape collection the other day (partly to catalogue all
the DJH-DH episodes i have), and i noticed a slight script error. It was the
one called "Fight!", and it was the scene when "arthur" was talking to
"stephanie". In it, she was planning to attract "simon's" attention by
staging a fall, only it was "arthur" who helped out. BUT if you listen
carefully (i missed it the first few times) "arthur" said "stay back mike"
(the actor's real name) and not "stay back simon" like he should have. -
just a little thing is all :)

Funny thing ... my sister was watching TNT today and there was this
movie on called "The Counterfeit Contessa." It starred Tea Leoni (of
being married to David Duchovny fame) and was really, well ... awful.
But the reason she watched it was because Pat Mastroianni aka Joey
Jeremiah had a small role. He played someone with a spanish accent and
had a pony tail ... he kinda sounded like Hank Azaria in "The
Birdcage." Check it out, it's kinda funny!

Subject: peanut butter on arthur's bike
In the opening of Degrassi High there's a bunch of clips from scenes in
Degrassi High. I recognize each scene except for one. It's the one with
Arthur discovering peanut butter on his bike. I've seen each Degrassi
High episode at least a million times, but I've never seen an episode
where Arthur gets peanut butter on his bike. Does this episode really
exist? Or was it cut out of an episode? I imagine it must have been from
around the time that Dwayne, Nick and Tabi were anniciating(sp?) the new
niners in Degrassi. What was with Tabi and that Skippy peanut butter??
She was always running around with a tub of skippy peanut butter and a
spoon. who would eat peanut butter by itself? that's gross!
*Mark* Two main scenes that were in the opening theme song to Degrassi High
never made it to the show. LD kicking the soccer ball, and Arthur scraping
peanut butter (probably Skippy) off his bike.
I verified with Kit Hood.

someone referred to the wearing of an aussie rules jersey in the last set
of postings, and just for you aussies who seem to be fans of our "accents",
we too think of you!
from my point of view canadians feel somewhat tied to australians in terms
of the british past, and the whole monarchy thing. the australian accent is
pretty much adored (i went to a party with a gal from melbourne and
everyone was like i loooooove your accent)so thats that.
i dont think that the producers could have ever thought that their program
would get across the globe to australia in the future, and the fact that
there are so many australians in the group is somewhat co-incidential.
the wardrobe thing: also i think the representative group in degrassi were
rather middle-low class. and considering the budget of the show, the
wardrobe was probably second hand at the time. being from toronto, i have
to admit that a large percentage of the people in certain areas pape/jones
and gerrard still dress the same way!!!!!!!!(ooh, geographical slur!)
there is also a following of australian/n.zealander tv shows here... i
think its just the romantic sound of the maouri (sp???)

Here's a update for the Showbiz section of Degrassi Legacy: Stefan Brogren
stars in the new
Scratching Post video, "Rock Past It". The video which was filmed on July
11th at the Toronto Street Festival is now out on MuchMusic (or MuchUSA for
those in the States). Stefan plays an crazy obsessed fan, and there's some
really funny clips before and after the video where it's just dialog, no
music, with Snake talking about his obsession. Check MuchMusic for it (the
video is currently in medium rotation) and if you want you can request the
video at OnDemand@MuchMusic.com. For more info on the band Scratching Post
check out the official website at www.scratchingpost.com (the video and
Stefan are briefly mentioned on the opening page).
