Any ideas about the whereabouts of simon?? (michael carry??) i think i saw him in a restaurant in the beaches the other night (yeah i am in toronto), and he had a pair of work gloves in his back pocket. if it was him, he looked thinner, and with a beard. i am so not sure, but he looked familiar, something that about a zillion hours watching a show can do to you. my friend and i thought that he might work in the christmas tree lot in kew beach park, but that is just our little detective hunch. i always thought he was the best actor.
Ann
*Mark* I am sure Michael Carry works for Epitome Pictures, for
Linda Schuyler's show, Riverdale, named after the nice
neighbourhood just east of downtown Toronto. (Degrassi Street is
on the border of Riverdale and the Beaches). Check out http://www.riverdale.ca and
check for Information about Epitome Pictures.

Subject: Re: 1st Anniversary Special Issue
Hi Fellow Degrassi Fans,
Hi there! I am writing in response to Darlene Dazzle's
complaint in the Anniversary Issue that there were no Degrassi
publicity tours here in the United States. In the spring of 1990,
the actresses who played the twins and Lucy hosted a special
assembly about teen issues (or something like that) at my former
high school, Bayonne High, in New Jersey. My friend Nicole and I
begged our typing teacher to let us attend, and she did.
Unfortunately, our fellow schoolmates pretty much embarrassed us
by asking the actresses VERY rude questions. I managed to ask a
pretty lame question about their characters vs. real life (hey, I
was star struck!). At the end of the assembly, Nicole and I
approached the stage. It was pretty evident that we had ticked
them off...the twins looked like they were ready to kill someone,
and Anais (Lucy) had already walked off stage. We managed to
apologize on behalf of our school to the twins, which was the
least we could do. They seemed surprised that someone actually
had the nerve to apologize, and thanked us very sweetly. So,
there is at least one account of some of the cast coming to the
States! Since that has been cleared up, I think my fellow
Americans on the East Coast should find a way to get the series
back on television!
Yours truly,
Cassandra Ernst-Zitlofsky

Hi Everyone,
First off, I'd like to mention that I enjoyed the anniversary issue of the digest--I've only been on a few months, so it was great to hear the highlights and what I missed.
A few things I had questions/comments about:
1. Adding to other questions about her whereabouts--whatever happened to Stacie Mistysn (aka Caitlin)?
2. Here's something for your paper, and another reason why Degrassi was so much a better show than 90210 or its clones ... ever notice how on 90210 and "saved by the bell" and other shows, that when the characters, who have endured together through high school, go off to college, they all end up going to the same college? This is why I think that Degrassi, even if it wanted to, couldn't have gone on beyond high school. The producers/writers would have never come up with something so contrived. There would have been a way to show various characters at school, but continuity would have been hard to keep track of what the various characters were up to. Still, I think it would have been interesting to see a "college years" thing. Plus, the budget would have been horrendous.
3. Yeah, I think I saw Neil Hope in a porno movie. He was having a five-some with Blair from "The Facts of Life," Dana Plato (of "Diffrent strokes" fame), Corey Nemec ("Parker Lewis"), and an as of yet unidentified cast member of the early 90's teen soap "Swans Crossing." ... NOT!!! I have to say, that "conspiracy" guy? Waaaaaaaay too much time on his hands. Especially to watch porn. Is he single? Probably.
Anyway, love the sight and think you should name it
"Poppin' Zits." If that's too disgusting, well, uh ...
I dunno.

Subject: More Quotes
I have another Joey Jeremiah quote which I didn't give before with my others, because it isn't from a specific episode like those in the quotes page of the Unofficial Degrassi Website. I remember that during the first two seasons Joey usually greeted Wheels and Snake with : "Hey Wheels/Snake, my man." (I noticed that for the first two seasons Joey usually talked in a kind of cool dude patter, but at the beginning of the third season he suddenly started talking like everyone else most of the time.)
I have an idea which might be useful for people who want to write to the Degrassi actors who are still acting. I've noticed that many actors get their fan mail through agencies like William Morris, so I wonder if anyone would know if there is any kind of directory which would tell which agencies specific actors use.
I was interested in the comments in the Anniversary issue about Joey's hats. Since I read that the actors wore many of their own clothes, I too have wondered if Pat wore fedoras in real life, and also if he wore Hawaiian shirts. One reason I'm interested in this is because I'm very fond of and sometimes wear Hawaiian shirts myself, I wear jean jackets like Joey also wore, and I even bought a second-hand fedora ten years ago, and I still have it even though I haven't worn it much, so I really have Joey's Jr. High wardrobe.
David
*Mark* good point about Joey's expressions changing from Seasons
1+2 with Seasons 3. I never thought about. He did seem to be less
of a troublemaker in Season 3. His character seem to develop more
in Season 3.

Subject: DEGRASSI FEMINISM
Date: Thu, 24 Dec 1998 01:55:50 +1100
Mark and friends,
Don't you think the one thing that is overkill and almost ruins Degrassi is all that extremist feminist nonsense surrounding Lucy and Caitlin ? That business about Lucy not a shooting Joey's video because of girls in bikini ( Allison & Amy ), and Caitlin refusal to be in the video the same. Then there was the feminist horror movie "IT CREEPS" where Simon replays the role of Janet Leigh out of "PSYCHO" when he gets stabbed in the shower. All of this seems to be a Canadian phenomena. Despite the fact it is putting an alternative point of view I believe that sort of extremism is unproductive, unhealthy and only creates more division from the natural order of things. I'd like to hear everyone's view on that topic. Of course Joey on several occassions summed up the arguments very correctly - when addressing his sunshine girls locker pinups: and telling Caitlin it was a compliment to be a bikini girl. He's a gentleman and scholar is Joey. Most Australian girls would love to be wear bikinis in a rock video. Andrew
*Mark* I think the show tried to depict that the actions can
be thought of as sexist. The fact is, Amy and Allison agreed to
walk about in their bikinis. Joey did not point a gun to their
heads. I think his intentions were sexist for the Amy and
Allison, but since both parties thought it was appropriate, then
I would say it was not sexist ground, but that is only my
opinion. I thought that it was a form of prostitution...and both
Amy and Allison were degraded to sexual objects, but their
characters were dumb snobs anyway. Escort services are legal, but
they seem to be like a form of prostitution, right? Joey's
comment re: Caitlin wearing a bikini was not meant to be sexist,
because Joey liked Caitlin, and he wanted to show her nice body
in a non-sexist way. Caitlin perception of being in a music video
with a bikini was sexist, because of the way it made her feel.
Perhaps sexism is not absolute, it is subjective, and personal.
What Amy and Allison would think is not sexist is not what
Caitlin would think, or Lucy as well. "It Creeps" was a
cool example of the feminist horror flick, like a parody...In the
1980's, all the cruesome killers were men, like Freddie Krueger,
Jason, etc...and I think Lucy wanted to show in her film that
women can kill and be gruesome as well.

they'll be worth something one day particularly in Canada if
someone gets hold of a set ( if they can ). ABC books haven't got

For those reviewing this site given the reasonable number of Australian contributions it should be made clear to everyone else that there is very little Canadian tv screened on Australian television ( that is distinctly Canadian ). Even CBC stuff. [ Excluding French Quebec which is on mutlicutural tv ]. Degrassi is the only series that comes to my mind and for that reason it is probably the only true link for Australian tv watchers into the culture of Canada. And it hasn't been screened since 1995. Other Cdn made shows are packaged like U.S. ones and are indistinguishable ( forgive me X-Files ) such as FOREVER KNIGHT. It is a bit of a tragedy that is the case - little Cdn product - but that serves to explain why Degrassi is focused on so much. I hope this info is useful and I think the show has done more for Canadian - Australian relations than anything else given there seems to be a intergovernmental policy of culturally distancing the two countries from each other for obscure reasons. I am so relieved that Bronco and I are finally settled into our first apartment. Living together is such an important step, and so far it has been incredibly fun and romantic. We are semi-broke right now so we decided not to exchange Christmas presents this year. It seemed pointless to get into debt or to run out and get cheapie gifts like soap-on-a-rope. However, we did get a Christmas tree. It's a tiny, sickly little thing. One ornament made the whole thing droop. We tried to make popcorn strings last night but it smelt so good that we added butter and salt and ate it instead. I have decided that instead of keeping a photo album of "Bronco and Lucy's early years", I will film a documentary compilation. I am capturing all the frivolous little moments that will seem precious later. Bronco and I will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day making the rounds to various relatives houses. We already know that everyone is going to badger us to get married. They all think that we are living in sin, hahahaha. What is so sinful about living together? It's not like we are selling drugs or hijacking airplanes. I guess they have visions of kinky sex and wild parties. As if we have time between our jobs and school! Gotta jam, Film Editing 101 starts in three minutes.

Don't worry about your relatives, it's their job to be old fashioned and over protective. We are liberal now but watch us become super strict with our own kids. I bet that you and Bronco will have really cute kids, something good should come out of all that (supposed) kinky sex. For some reason I remembered that exotic makeover you gave me. You know, the one where I looked like a Las Vegas show girl. You'll never guess who is in my soccer class: Jason Cox! We are always teasing each other about that big swim race we had in junior high. He wants a rematch. I beat him once and I can do it again. He is really cute now, maybe I will accidentally-on-purpose start bumping into him. By the way, congratulations on getting approval for "It Creeps . . . the Sequel". This time can I play the killer and Joey play the victim? I would not mind stabbing him a couple hundred times.
Okay, enough loafing. I need to call my dad to make sure that he is taking his Angina medication. He took care of me during my remission so now it is my turn to look after him.
