Too bad that the internet did not exist back in the 1980s. That would have been so cool to log on the 'net 5 minutes after the episode played and smooze with other fans. Every once in awhile, you can spot Anais Granofsky (Lucy
Fernandez) playing Carla on Le Femme Nikita. She looks different
now, still tall and pretty, just more dramatic facial features
and a thinner body frame. Does anybody know what happened to the
actors that played L.D. and the twins?
*Mark* Amanda Cook now has a child, and the twins I heard are
Flamenco dancers, and that they are often behind the camera. I do
not think they are still in acting. AJ saw them once on a Sprint
Canada commercial two years ago....I think. I have seen Anais on
Nikita as well. That show, as well as Degrassi is co-produced by
an American and Canadian company.

>Spike was sort of a role model for me since I too was a teen mother. The episode that I can relate to most was the one where Spike wished that she never had Emma. It was so close to my own life. So many nights I cried myself to sleep. I had to work at Burger King after school to pay for my daughter's diapers and formula. All my friends helped out at first but they disappeared to enjoy stuff that was unreachable for me--like drama club and parties. Spike and Emma gave me the courage to keep fighting. My daughter is ten now. I hope that PBS brings the episodes back so she can be a second generation Degrassi fan.
This is a story that seems to be very common today.. spike was
a role model for me as well. although i am not a mother, she (and
liz) was the fist taste of punk rock i had in my life. i think
that having such a character in a pre-teenager's show was an
excellent idea; the cast was truly representative of the
different subcultures in society. I grew up with degrassi and
used the characters of spike and liz to become involved in what
has become a huge part of my life; punk rock music. I just
thought i'd share this and see if anyone else has had the same
experience or influences.

Degrassi World #32 : Spike meets Anaheim by Princess Paige

After High School graduation, and a summer of working in the
camera store, Spike was ready to live on her own and start her
own career. Emma was 4 years old and was ready to start
Pre-Kindergarten and make new friends where as Spike was 19 and
ready to have a social life. It was a sunny August day and Spike
was in need of new clothes for fall. She and Emma were wandering
through Kensington Market, in and out of stores. She entered a
new store, Shimmer, and Spike saw him. Black hair with bleach
blond spikes, wearing a vintage "lounge lizard" shirt
and some black pants. He was like a dream come to life for Spike.
She caught his eye, and *he* blushed! "Hey, can I help you?
My name's Anaheim, and well, this is my store." "Hi,
I'm Spike, and this is Emma." Spike pointed at her daughter,
who was looking at a small black taffetta/tool skirt. After
spending almost an hour in Shimmer trying on clothes and modleing
them for Emma and Anaheim, Spike felt like she was finally a
teen-ager. Anaheim was like no one she'd ever met before. He was
hip and cool, into vintage clothes and culture, and very much
into her! Spike bought a few dresses, some pants and the black
toole skirt for Emma. She handed Anaheim her money and he took
her hand, brought it to his lips and kissed her hand.
"Spike," He said. "I think you are the cutest and
awsome girl I've ever met. You're like a walking Goddess. Can I
please have your phone number so we can go out sometime?"
Spike was almost beet red, but she was very, very excited and
happy. She gave Anaheaim her number and then she and Emma left.
"I liked Anaheim, Mommy. He's cool." Emma said as they
left Kensington. Spike and Anaheim went out that night to a dance
club. (Emma stayed at home with Spike's Mom.) The next weekend,
Spike and Emma were back at Kensington Market, in Shimmer.
"Spike," Anaheim started. "I've got a fantastic
idea for you and Emma.
The people across the street in Fantasee Clothes are moving out.
You want to be a hair stylist right? Why don't you move in there
and start a hair salon?" Spike's eyes lit up. She had money
saved, and her mom would definatly help out. It seemed like the
perfect plan. She could finally be on her own. After 3 weeks, a
lot of decorating and moving, "Star Spider hair styles"
was in business. Spike was on her own, she had an awsome
boyfriend who Emma liked and he liked Emma. Could her life be
anymore great? It was Sunday morning when her phone rang. She
picked it up. "Spike?" It was a very paniced sounding
Anaheim. "What's wrong sweets?" She asked. "It's..
my parents- they- gawd- I hate them!" "Anaheim, what
happened!?" Spike was starting to worry. "I have a
younger sister, Zoey, and, well, she's 5. My parents seem to have
had a nervous break down- they just left from here a few minutes
ago. They didn't take Zoey with them. They've given all custody
to me, and gone off somewhere in the States." Emma and Zoey
had become best friends over the short week that Zoey had been
living in Kensington Market. They were in the same grade one
class, and were completely inseperable. Sleep-overs happened
almost every night- even if it was a week night, because Spike
and Anaheim were usually at eachothers house late each night.
Anaheim was not used to having his sister live with him- he
hadn't lived at home for over 3 years, and he was only 19 years
old. Spike tried to help out as much as possible. She gave
Anaheim time to deal with the change. To Zoey, Spike became like
a second mom.Spike had never been more happy in her life. Dispite
Anaheim's anger and sadness twoards his parents, he was being a
perfect brother/dad to Zoey *and* Emma. Spike thinks Anaheim is
the best thing to happen to her. He is sweet, cool and
supportive. The 4 of them feel like a family. Spike is beaming
with joy and feels sucessful and completly content for the first
time in her life.
