I've been busy with school, and I am sick with mono, so that is
why the Digest has not been on schedule :-(
The site has been renovated, so check it out. http://www.degrassi.org
Degrassi Legacy (Natalie and Mark's site) will undergo a
facelift this coming month as well.
Check it out at http://www.degrassi-junior-high.org
Contributions to http://www.degrassi.org are always welcome! If you want to submit anything like "How has Degrassi changed your life?" to "What you like or dislike about the show", please e-mail me.
I am posting an e-mail my friend Wendy sent me called
"You are an 80's child if..."
I think it is funny and it is definitely related to the website.
If anyone wants to add to it, please e-mail me.
Enjoy :-)

No! The name "Degrassi Digest" rules!
Mike
*Mark* Thanks, but if anyone knows of a better name for the new
year, let me know.

North East section of the USA(NYC) .. i am a big fan of the show
and would love to see it
Melissa
*Mark* Natalie Earl told me that TRIO aired Degrassi...I think it
is an American private cable company, maybe you can have access
to it in New York.

Hey I'm 27 and worship Degrassi & the Kids of Degrassi
Street! That is how I got hooked on Degrassi! I started out
watching Kids of Degrassi, then I watched Degrassi Jr.High when
it appeared. A lot of the Degrassi cast started out on Kids of
Degrassi as different characters though. Anyway to clear up the
Danny question..in Kids of Degrassi Griff (who later turned up on
Degrassi as Wheels) used to pick on Danny the crossing guard and
make fun of him..then not long after Griff became his
friend..Danny died and Griff was convinced it was his fault and
felt guilty for picking on him all the time. He drew Danny's
picture and put it in the yearbook.

Spike was sort of a role model for me since I too was a teen
mother. The episode that I can relate to most was the one where
Spike wished that she never had Emma. It was so close to my own
life. So many nights I cried myself to sleep. I had to work at
Burger King after school to pay for my daughter's diapers and
formula. All my friends helped out at first but they disappeared
to enjoy stuff that was unreachable for me--like drama club and
parties. Spike and Emma gave me the courage to keep fighting. My
daughter is ten now. I hope that PBS brings the episodes back so
she can be a second generation Degrassi fan.
*Mark* Thank you for sharing your story. If anyone wants to
submit anything, e-mail me with your contributions to how the
show affected you.

Subject: About the Degrassi site
Hi,
I hope you are the right person to email this too. I am assuming that degrassi.org is your website. I really like your Degrassi site. I am a big fan of the show still, even though I am now 22. I am writing to you because on your website you say that Degrassi took place in an unnamed North American city. I think that it is safe to say that it was in a Canadian city. Little things brought up in the show identify it as a Canadian city, for example shots of Canadian money, names of certain places like movie theatres. I think it's very cleary identified in the show that it is Canadian. Okay now the point of my email. I'd like to make a suggestion that on your website you could say unnamed Canadian city. Although I think people can pretty much figure out it's Toronto.
Sincerely,
Maria
*Mark* As Degrassi was mentioned in press releases, it was never
mentioned as a Canadian city, but as an unnamed North American
city. Canadians can recognize the money, etc...cultural icons,
images, street names, references to Montreal, Calgary, etc...but
it was not a show that was specifically set anywhere. It was more
of a universal setting in Western society, where it could be
anywhere. I think geography was not mentioned directly because it
was not important for the show content.

Subject: Joey Jeremiah Quotes
I have two Joey Jeremiah quotes; although I haven't seen
Degrassi since it's original run I'm sure I remember them
accurately. One of them is from Term 3, either "He Ain't
Heavy" or "The Whole Truth"--it's from when Joey
got a job as a janitor to slip Zit Remedy tapes in the office;
the quote is, "When Joey Jeremiah promises Joey Jeremiah
delivers." The other is from Term 4, "A New
Start," it's "I'm gonna be the coolest guy at Degrassi
High," followed by a whoop. Also I've seen an article about
Degrassi in the Purdue University Library in MacLean's Magazine,
from 1986 or 7, I could mail a copy of it to you, Mark, if you
don't have it; it had some information which I haven't seen on
your sites. I tried using the non-frames version of David
Nashir's site and the pages were still too large to print with
half-inch margins, but I found that I could print the whole pages
by eliminating the margins in the page preview. When I started
looking at the Degrassi sites I was surprised to find that there
is still so much interest in it, since I didn't know that it's
still broadcast in Canada. That shows that there are many people
who appreciate such a high-quality program. You've created a very
informative site, it's like a very large book about Degrassi.
*Mark* Thanks for your quotes, they will be added very soon to
the quotes section.

Good day, just wanted to let you know I that I was watching Fox Kids when I was home from work one day last week and I saw this show with these 4 medival loooking people on there, and although I get the Fox station kinda fuzzy, I swear I saw "Patrick" (Vincent Walsh) as one of the main characters, but I couldn't be sure cuz the station wasn't clear. Luckily I was up early this Saturday morning and I caught the show 9 minutes into it, it's called Mystic Knights and something (long title..but Mystic Knights is the important part of it) and I watched for the ending credits just to be sure and sure enough it is him. He has big curly hair and is a bit of weirdo, but hey, it's a Fox kids show..what can we expect?!?! has anyone else seen it? It's kinda like a medival Power Rangers. check local listings, but I believe it's on Fox everyday at like 4 or something. funny stuff.

Degrassi World #31: Amethyst makes her debut at DJH-written by
Natalie Earl
^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^
Amethyst fidgets impatiently in the Degrassi Junior High
attendance office as her parents Liz and Patrick fill out the
registration papers. Amethyst is being bratty, thinking she is
too cool and rebellious for this school. Doris Bell, the
secretary, smiles because Liz came to Degrassi years ago with the
same attitude problem. Amethyst's saving grace is that Emma is
waiting in the doorway to escort her to class. Emma and Amethyst
have a unique friendship. Emma has lived in Toronto all her life
but Amethyst has lived in Dublin, London, New York and Paris.
Since their moms are best friends, they were natural playmates
during Christmas and Summer visits. Previously home taught,
Amethyst has never attended a real school in her life. Home study
was more convenient because of her parent's fast-paced, high
profile lifestyles. Patrick is a musician and Liz is a costume
designer. Amethyst was raised in a free-spirited atmosphere. As
other children remember pony rides and little league, Amethyst
remembers cocktail parties and jam sessions. Being a hard-core
gothic, Amethyst is critical of Emma's best buds Sabrina, Chloe
and Bethany. "They dress like Dawson's Creek" she
sniffs to Emma, "Everyone at this dorky school is a prep . .
. except you of course." Emma is used to Amethyst being an
exhibitionist but it shocks the student body. Her first day at
Degrassi, Amethyst paints her toenails in homeroom, graffiti's
her favorite goth bands on the washroom wall, and has Chinese
take-out delivered to Mr. Munro's class. Emma hated to do it but
she explained to Amethyst that the way she is acting the kids
will think she is desperate for attention. Amethyst admitted that
she did not know how to act like a regular teenager. She knows
how to make airline reservations and select the proper wine with
dinner. But nobody ever taught her how to be normal: like reading
Teen Beat magazine, wearing fruit-scented lipgloss and writing
bubbly notes on Hello Kitty stationary. "Eeew. I'll kill you
if you become too normal" Emma replied "I'm glad to
have another punk at Degrassi. The two of us can cause some major
damage together."
The End.
