Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the last song that they play at the last dance (the slow-ish one), or who sings it. Also, was there ever a Degrassi soundtrack of any kind, because Degrassi had some cool music.
*Mark* I know the chorus sounded like "As Days Go by...." a Slow mellow song...Many of the songs were performed by Gowan, but I am not sure of the last song.

Just wanna say a few words, any other "older" Degrassi fans out there. I find myself at 28, LOVING this show. I watch Degrassi Jr High every day at noon, and following it is Degrassi High. I wish SHOWCASE would put Kids of Degrassi Street on as well. That is how it all started, oh and can anyone tell me something about Kids of Degrassi Street. Remember the crossing guard Danny? He was sick that one day because he had headaches. Did he die? Does anyone know?

Take care all

I heard Maya's CD. I even saw the band live at the Horseshoe. It's true, the album is amazing, but I disagree, I don't think it sounds like Alanis. In fact it sounds pretty unique. But her voice reminds me more of Janis Joplin.

I have two questions;

(1) What's happened to the PWT offices?

(2) Have you ever been in the DeGrassi Grocery? Who owns it and have they talked about their experiences...afterall, their store was the springboard for a national television series?!!

GREAT JOB WITH THE WEB SITE MARK!!! IT'S GREAT!!
*Mark* Welcome back to the digest Chetan! Thanks for your support for the site. The PWT offices are there, but are now occupied by the Toronto Youth Hostel Association. I have been to the Degrassi grocery many times, and I think there is a new owner....He had no clue when I asked him about the show. The residents on Degrassi street all remember The Kids of Degrassi Street being filmed there, but Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High were not filmed on Degrassi Street..Mostly filmed at 68 Daisy, in Etobicoke, and some scenes were filmed along Queen Street and some along Degrassi street (few)

Degrassi fans will also take delight in Australia's "HeartBreak High" and England's "The Press Gang". Both shows air weekdays on WAM, the kid channel affiliated with the Encore movie package. WAM, like TRIO (offering Degrassi episodes!) are available from Direct TV satellite. HeartBreak High portrays realistic conflicts experienced by slick, street-smart characters . A cross breed between Degrassi and 90210. Press Gang is more of a soap opera, revolving around the teenaged newspaper staff of the Junior Gazette. The Press Gang kids come off as charming and intelligent without being hardened. One of the characters is even named Spike!

Dear Mark,

Thank you very much for finally putting an informative Degrassi site out for all us fans. I have grown up in Australia and Degrassi was a formative and integral part of my life from the late eighties, through to the early nineties when both series' were screened in their entirety on our public broadcasting service (ABC). More than being a part of my teen years, I know that the show reached and informed a great deal of high school students themselves in Australia in a way which was not patronising. It was successful because it dealt with a lot of the serious issues, but did not forget the angst and the fun which is a part of every student's life. I was not aware that the show had won so many awards and had been recognised for the high quality production that it was. The site that you have created is a treat. I will recommend it to all my friends that are Degrassi fans. We will continue to sing the theme song with vigour, and hold true to our favourite phrases such as "Everybody wants something, they'll never give up..." a la The Zit Remedy. I will continue the tradition next year when I hold my 21st birthday party - which will of course have a Degrassi theme. I just can't decide who to go as....

Cheers and thanks again,
Yvette P.

I just noticed the other day that Lucy was in a commercial for Q92, a Montreal radio station, that was supposed to be featuring real people(not actors). I was just wondering how can get tapes of all of the DJH and DH episodes. Thank you. This is a fabulous site!
*Mark* Anais is a real person, isn't she? She is not like a Hollywood person who cannot leave their house because they will be recognized and trampled by the people at the grocery or the mall. Degrassi actors probably got approached, but not trampled by people. I'm sure they lead normal lives, which may not be the case for actors on American television programs.

I've found some other technical problems on the Unofficial Degrassi Website. In the characterizations the links for Cindy, Shane, BLT, Bartholomew , and most that come after except a few around Simon and Alexa aren't working; I get Server Error, not found.
David

*Mark* I am in the midsts of re-structuring the Cheacters section of the site. Everything will be working very soon...If you find any errors, please report them to me. Thanks for letting me know...I will fix them up very soon with a new look to http://www.degrassi.org/Characters/index.html

Dressed in his black mourning clothes, Nick pretended to grieve at his Uncle Salvador's funeral. He squeezes out a fake tear so nobody would suspect than inside he was laughing. Nick wishes that he were the one shoveling dirt on his grave. Eight years ago, Uncle Sal lived with Nick's family as a full-time babysitter. Nick's widowed mother felt that Uncle Sal could protect the family and provide a positive role model for Nick and his younger sisters. Ironically, he caused more grief by molesting Nick. Nobody suspected that Uncle Sal was a pedophile because he portrayed a hero to the outside world. He was the first person to come to the rescue when somebody's car broke down or when a relative was sick. His abusive side only surfaced behind locked doors. Nick's mom often worked the night shift. That is when Uncle Sal forced Nick to participate in anal and oral sex. He even forced Nick to dress up in ladies clothing. Uncle Sal threatened to rape his mom and sisters if he informed the police. Three years later, Nick's mom found out when she came home early from her night shift. Nick suffered years of post traumatic stress. To prove that he was not gay, Nick portrayed himself as a womanizer. At school he kissed and fondled Tabi like a sexual brute. But it was all a show. He hated gym class because it meant looking at naked young men. He was terrified of having sexual feeling for them or vice versa. He thought that sleeping with Tabi would "cure" him of any disorders. However the consumation (the few times that impotency did not occur) proved cold and meaningless. In desperation, Nick confided in a trusted Catholic priest. The priest informed Nick that his abuse did not automatically "turn" him into a gay person. However, Nick would never be able to enjoy intercourse the way it was intended to be enjoyed (involving love, trust, and tenderness) until he got the abuse out of his system.
