The girl who played Stephanie Kay - she later starred in a
movie made
right here in Newfoundland. I will have the utmost respect if you
can name
that movie.... and has she done anything since???

i just joined this list, and i am amazed that there are so
many loyal degrassi fans out there such as myself. i recently
moved to toronto, and during my first week here i had a degrassi
character (liz/cathy)sighting. anyways, what i wanted to know is:
does anyone have any copies of degrassi episodes they'd like to
trade or sell? i have a tape of about 20 episodes of DH and DJH,
but i need MORE! also, degrassi merchandise would fulfill my
craving.
superchick
*Mark* As far as I know, there are no more Degrassi merchandise
around, except Degrassi books and videos. Check out

Degrassi episodes are broadcast on the TRIO Network from Direct TV Satelite. Through calculation, I discovered it is cheaper to subscribe to SHOWCASE in Canada or TRIO in USA than to buy the tapes individually from a mail order service. However, it is OUR responsibility to email the stations regularly to ensure that the episodes stay on the air. Also badger the "free" channels (like PBS) so that the starving students will reap the benefits of Degrassi.
Chillin' in the senior quad,

Hey Everyone,
I was watching an episode of Degrassi called PA-ARTY (that I
taped off Showcase and then right after it, I watched Schools Out
(wich I taped off of Showcase) and I noticed a mistake they made.
A really big mistake that if brought up to the writers, Schools
Out would have had an incredibly different ending. In PA-ARTY,
Joey, Wheels and Snake get Clutch to buy them a case of beer to
take to a party at Lucys house. While walking to Lucys house,
they decide to sit down and drink some of the beers for a while
first. Joey and Snake start drinking and then Joey asks wheels if
he wants one and, angrilly, Wheels says no and scolds Joey for
asking. Joey finishes off his beer and asks him again if he wants
one, and Wheels gets really angry and tells him that his parents
died from a drunk driver and he just cant get himself to drink.
Now, if that is true, I mean, if the writers had kept that in
mind while writing Schools Out, they wouldnt have had Wheels
drink two cases of beer throughout the whole movie and then a
couple before he went driving and as a result, crash into another
car. I just wanted to share this with you cause I thought it was
worth mentioning. Keep up the great job with the newsletter and I
cant wait for the next one.
*Mark* I think Wheels became inconsistent with his principles
because he had a drinking problem, and that he was not in his
right senses and state of mind when he drove drunk....Ironic that
his parents got killed by a drunk driver and that he was really
against drinking in grade 9...Please note that School's Out and
the PA-ARTY episode was supposedly 3 years apart in time. Wheels
could have changed his views.

Has anyone else heard Kyra Levy's band, Psycho Key? Kyra of course played Maya on Degrassi High. I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought the CD but it is really good, in my opinion. I thought it sounded a little like Alanis Morissette, but better while someone else compared it to Ani DeFranco. If others have heard it, I would be interested in knowing what they think. The email for Psycho Key is coco98inc@yahoo.com (as listed on the liner notes so it is public).

Hello!
I have noticed lately when watching (and paying closer attention
to DH) that there seems to be blatant advertising of the Quaker
Dipps granola bars. Has this been discussed before? I could point
out where they are located in some of the epidsoes from the last
season. Was this done on purpose? Did Quaker pay them or
something? See ya! Rhonda.
*Mark* I do not know the exact deal, but the advertisers pay to
have their ads on, so they pay the TV station or the TV network,
like CBC....But if Degrassi was going to help out the
advertisers, then maybe it was for the following reasons...The
advertisers paid Playing With Time (Degrassi's production
company) as well as paying CBC...The fact was that Degrassi was
endorcing Quaker Dipps Chocolate Granola Bars, Cleartech Zit
Cream, and Skippy Peanut Butter...The advertisers had to have
paid Playing With Time some money as they promoted the
product...or CBC could have made a deal to advertise their
product, and CBC would give benefits like pay more money per
episode of the show...It is an economic issue, and I am not sure
of the answer.

Subject: Technical errors on Mark and David's site
I am a recent subscriber to the Degrassi Digest. At 43 I am
unusually old for a Degrassi fan, but I think it was a good
program for people of any age to watch, and the characters were
mostly very likeable people; Joey Jeremiah was a really brilliant
creation of the makers of the show and of Pat Mastroianni. You
and the other Degrassi webmasters have created some excellent
sites. There are other things I plan to write about in the
future, but presently there are two practical problems I'd like
to ask about. The first is that when I click on the links to the
pages on the shows, School's Out and the documentaries on the
Unofficial Degrassi Website the computer says "object not
found" or something like that. The other is that since I
don't have my own computer I need to print material at a library
to look at it at home, and when I print some pages of pictures
from David Nashtir's Degrassi site I can't get the whole
page-part is cut off on the right side, and the printer can't
move the picture the way one can on the computer screen. Do you
know of any way to get a print of the whole page? (the pages I
have this problem with are The Actors and their Characters and
the pictures of Jr. High Episode 4, the Cover Up)
David
*Mark* Problem is now fixed for my site....As for David
Nashtir's page, please check out the non frames version of his
page at http://math.technion.ac.il/~nashtir/degrassi/aux/noframe-degrassi.html

Degrassi World #28: Heather and Erica Won't Go to Bed
written by Natalie Earl
[Author's Note: The Degrassi Kids are younger versions of the
Degrassi
Junior High series].
Each year the Kids of Degrassi Street get together for a group
Trick-or-Treating adventure. This year the Farrell parents
volunteered to lead the escapade. Well, actually they were
drafted into it because they had the largest van. Heather and
Erica dressed as Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, they fought over who
had to be Andy. Lucy was a 1920's zoot suit gangster, L.D. was a
race car driver, Caitlin was Lois Lane. Joey, Snake, and Wheels
dressed as (and acted) like the Three Stooges. Candy looting
started at sunset and ended when their pillowcases were too heavy
to drag. They even had a special gag, Instead of chanting
"Trick or Treat" the gang would sing Christmas carols.
Some of the houses caused them work: they had to get past tricky
gates, attack dogs, automatic sprinkler systems, and grandmothers
who took ten minutes to walk to the door--then expected each kid
to "explain" what they were. But in the end it is worth
it. Nothing on Earth smells as good as a mixed blend of
chocolate, caramel, peanut butter, and marshmellow all smooshed
together. Once home, Heather and Erica were too escalated from
sugar and excitement to take their baths and go to bed. They
cried when mom confiscated their candy sacks to prevent them from
snacking all night. Half the fun is sleeping with your bag so you
can wake up to a candy breakfast! But the twins were especially
naughty tonight. They waited until their parents went to sleep so
they could steal their bags back and play all night. Oh, the fun
they had! Besides eating handfuls and handfuls of candy, the
girls watched an R- rated movie on cable and experimented with
their mother's makeup stash. Their parents discovered them the
next morning, bloated with green faces. Would they pull such
pranks next years? You bet!

Degrassi World #29--Whatever Happened to Derek Wheeler?, written
by Bobi
After Wheels spends his required amount of time in jail he has
to complete 6 months of community service. He speaks regularly at
the Highschool and Junior High, as well as working with troubled
youth in the community and area. Wheels is working at the
Degrassi Juvenile Detention Centre one day when he is approached
by a man who seems very familiar to Wheels. The two men sit
together in the break room and start talking like old friends and
Wheels discusses what has brought him here to work with the
youth. The man tells Wheels he is in a similar position, he was
involved in a bar fight that seriously injured the individual he
was fighting with. The man gets up to leave and remembers that he
has not yet introduced himself, "By the way, nice to meet
you, I'm Mike Nelson." "Mike Nelson? I'm Derek
Wheeler...You're my biological father...?" Shocked at
meeting eachother under such cicumstances the two look each other
over. It has been many years since they last spoke. Wheels looks
much thinner and a little older from all the stress, and Mike
looks much older, heavier, and haggard from all the drinking. The
men sit down and continue to chat forgetting their work totally,
catching up on 8 or so years that they haven't had contact. Their
last meeting was particullarly tragic for Wheels, he felt totally
abandoned by Mike, and nothing could erase that feeling, not even
the love his grandparents tried to give him before they totally
gave up on him after he landed himself in jail. Mike and Wheels
meet everyday on break and as the months pass the two men become
mentors for eachother living their days drink-free, a feeling
neither of them is used to, but are becoming accustomed to. Mike
even encourages Wheels to visit with Lucy, who is fully recovered
and running her own small production company. Bronco is the
company lawyer (he decided to take law at Degrassi University
after his successful Highschool political career.) Wheels and
Lucy, over a period of 5 months, produce a documentary of Wheels'
story to be shown at the facilities he continues to visit, even
after his mandatory community service is over. When he is not
telling his story, Wheels works with Lucy at her production
company; he hasn't a drink in over 4 years now...
