In reply to a message posted about Snake being a lifeguard in "School's Out". As a lifeguard I also agreed that it was realistic. The first time I saw "School's Out" I was too young to be a lifeguard but now it makes that scene so much more realistic. During that scene I also seem to critisize the stupidity of the girls. ex. don't drink and boat, where a lifejacket, etc.

Dear Mark,
Thank you for your amazingly comprehensive website devoted to the Degrassi shows. I've learned a lot from it!
A few months ago, I watched some episodes from Degrassi High again and actually like the show more now than when I watched it in high school! (I'm 22.)
Degrassi High is a remarkable show - quiet, realistic, concerned, and educational. I never sensed that the kids' situations were sanitized, trivialized, or sugar-coated. (I still remember how rocked I was first seeing the superior "Bad Blood - Part Two" episode.) DH could have easily have been depressing, but it wasn't. I loved the fact that the characters were free to be interesting, different, sensitive, and intelligent. The "cast-members"were great actors too!
I get the impression that Degrassi High was much more popular in Canada than here in the US. It's as if the show never existed here! Or in southern California at any rate, where I live. I don't recall ever seeing any TV ads or merchandise whatsoever in stores related to the show. I never even knew about any elementary/junior high episodes. Anyway, thanks again and keep up the great work!

In School's Out! I thought it was inconsistent for Lucy and
Caitlin to be best friends. Caitlin's jr/sr high buddies were
Maya, Diana, Melanie, and Kathleen. Lucy's buddies were Heather,
Erica, and L.D. It was obvious that they were paired up as a
convenient way to spotlight the most popular characters.
*Mark* I agree with you that it was not consistent, but note that
there was a gap of one year, and that it is possible that since
Caitlin did managed to excel one grade above so she can graduate
with the older kids, this means she was exposed to them more,
thus she may have become friends with Lucy that way.

OH MY GOSH!
i haven't heard that name in a long time.... i used to run home
from jr. high @ the end of class to watch degrassi. i was hooked
on that PBS show. i haven't seen or thought of it in years (over
ten years!). i watched the show when it first aired in the 80's.
i saw the address, www.degrassi.org on the for her children
newsletter and it caught my eye. so, i went to the site. i had a
look around. i liked it! pretty good...it brought back
memories!!!!! but in the show biz area i never saw the title
'DEGRASSI STREET' this was a show i watched as an even younger
child. i don't remember much of it. i'm not sure if it was a one
episode airing or a series. i do remember, however, it had a
couple of the same cast members. seeing this web site made me
think: are the two shows related? (since it wasn't listed in the
show biz area, i had to wonder. it's not that important but if
you can, please email me the answer to this question.
...................thanks.......MAZZY
*Mark* Only DJH and DH are related, and so is School's Out,
but The Kids of Degrassi Street is a separate series. Many of the
same actors were on that show from the early 1980's, but they
played different characters.

Hello everyone, this is my first post to this awesome list. At the moment, here on the west coast, Showcase is showing the DJH and DH series from noon-1pm in a rotation with DJH the first half hour. I am currently taping each show (I know it's not the greatest way to get the shows), but I was just wondering if anyone noticed that the actor who played Michelle's father changed in the DJH and DH series. If so, does anyone know why? Oh yeah, if anyone in Canada wants to lend or give me a copy of School's out for a trade or something else, please let me know. Thanks-Rhonda :-) P.S.I will check on that tip about the library for tapes-thanks!
*Mark* Yes Michelle's dad in season 3 (DJH's -Black and
White-) was different than in Season 4 or 5.
Also Caitlin's dad was different in Season 2 and Season 5

Hi Mark,
My name is Einat Razin and I register your degrassi mailing list. I started to make a degrassi page and I would like it to be a bit different. My page will be dedicated to degrassi fans and their opinions and to the actor Neil Hope. My question to the fans is: how did the show effected your life and why was it a great and special show? I'm collecting fans opinions and I will put them on my site where everyone could see, I won't put fans addresses if they don't want to. Would you like to help?
Let me know,
Einat

Hey, I don't know if this has been mentioned already but I was
just reading that Snake will be staring in a new movie called
Hairshirt. It has some big name actresses in it too such as Neve
Campbell and Rebecca Gayheart. The decription of the movie is A
romantic comedy about truth and revenge. Looks like it could be
good! I'm also wondering if anyone knows if the guy who played
Patrick was in the movie matchmaker?
*Mark* I heard that was true...with Neve Campbell. There probably
is a website, check it out.

Degrassi World #27: Halloween advice for scoring big loot,
written by Natalie Earl
[As published in the Degrassi Elementary Gazette by grade 5
students Derek Wheeler, Joey Jeremiah, and Archie Simpson]
Here is some advice for scoring big loot this Halloween. Listen up parents! You can't go wrong with Reeces, M&M's, Skittles, and Butterfingers. Decent substitutes include Blow Pops, Milk Duds and Whoppers. But don't insult us with cheap hard candies like sour balls, maple logs or starlight mints. There must be one mysterious store where grandmas buy this stuff because we never see them at normal stores.
Warning, the following items get dumped into the reject pile: apples, raisins, peanuts, home baked goods (due to fear of poison and razor blades) and anything that resembles a school supply, like pencils. For those of you who are hung up on giving "safe" toy treats instead of candy, at least make it good like Silly Putty or Slinkys. Coins are welcome, just no pennies!
No biblical coloring books either. They are cool to get at church when you are bored and seeking amusement, but don't expect us to appreciate them when we are dressed as Spiderman and buzzing from sugar euphoria. Also keep anti-Halloween propaganda to yourself. We don't care that Halloween originated as an occult practice. Any satanic rituals that might have occurred a zillion years ago have been totally replaced by commercialization.
Now some advice for kids. Location is everything when it comes
to the quality of loot. Poor neighborhoods give gross candy.
Wealthy neighborhoods with elaborate Halloween decorations equal
big payoffs. At the end of Trick or Treating, the best part is
having a big candy swap with your buds. The object is to unload
yourrejects. Between the gene pool of taste buds, somebody will
happily trade their Starbursts for your candy corn. A final word
of caution, guard your stash! Parents and siblings claim jump
while you are sleeping. The End.
