**********ATTENTION TO ALL AUSTRALIAN DEGRASSI FANS*********
Yesterday the ABC sadly told me they have no intention of
re-screening Degrassi in the near future. BUT....they did say
that that doesn't mean they never will ever again, and they filed
my expression of interest, or so they say. I don't understand
them. If they're after ratings, what do they think would get
more, Degrassi or Dad's Army?
This news came from Jeannine (Thanks!)

for some reason, i don't remember why, i seem to think that
stephanie kaye wasn't happy with going to the private school. i
remember that arthur said, 'mom sent her to private school'. i
don't remember if he explicitly said that she wasn't happy with
going or if i got it from the tone of his voice.
sheryl
*Mark* Arthur said it in a tone, like she may not like wearing
uniforms, but we do not know if she did not like private school.
I think Stephanie wanted to go to high school, but not
necessarily private high school.

More for your quotes section. If you liked my quote about Miss
Avery, I've got plenty more where that came from.
How about the time Amy & Alison were checking guys out for
the dance. Amy's (unfortunately accurate) description of Wheels
was "His jeans are so tight you can read the date on a
dime."
Or the infamous marijuana party, where they played Truth or Dare.
Melanie is asked whether she has read anyone's diary, and she
cannot stop laughing when she says she has read Kathleen's. But
it's OK because all she found out about Kathleen was that
"you have anorexia, your mom's an alcoholic and your
boyfriend beat you up!" And what's the info on the
Australian petition to get Degrassi back on the ABC? Where do I
sign?
..Suzannah
(and if I'd known that the movie was so popular, I would have
sold copies of my tape years ago.)

Dear Mark,
I am a big fan of the show and I have wanted to get tapes of the
show for sometime, but wherever I call they are like a $100 for
one show. I was wondering if there is a way I can get one of the
tapes that you made (school's out?) which was never shown on pbs
and maybe some other episodes like when joey, wheels and snake
are learning how to drive, when claude kills himself, last day of
eighth grade...etc. I am not picky I just want to watch degrassi
again:). Thanks for you time.
Sincerely Yours,
Labeba :)
*Mark* I do not think School's Out made PBS, too much foul
language, I do not think the mass public of PBS viewers would
want to watch that. Most PBS viewers are conservative, cultured
adults, not teenagers. This could be an explanation of why it
never made PBS, but maybe it did, and I did not notice.

I work at Alliance Broadcasting in Toronto, and I saw a short
film yesterday called "Moving Day". I was surprised to
see that Cathy Keenan played a small role as a woman in a rock
band and she was also credited as wardrobe supervisor. It's nice
to see she is still in touch with the industry.
Also, I wonder if anyone has seen a Canadian show called
"Divorce Court"? I remember seeing it years ago and
watching an episode with Anais Gronofsky (Lucy). I haven't seen
anyone mention it in the Digest.
I was hanging out near Degrassi St. this week and walked about
further west from it on Queen and saw the Shoppers Drug Mart
where some exterior shots were taken. Remember the episode when
Snake, Joey and Wheels try to get into the strip club? I saw the
exact club and it's called "Jilly's". It's interesting
to see some of these Degrassi landmarks.
Keep up the good work, Cynthia
*Mark* Thanks for the update!

this is just my question because people seem to be taking that
one episode (in my opinion it isnt even an episode) too far. i
think that school's out was just a tack on to satiate viewer's
thirst (curiousity) about the future. i would not say that it
kept in mood or tone with the degrassi high episodes that lead up
to it. i liked it, i must say, but the things that happened in it
(all the out of place outrageous situations that happen in one
weekend: all the sex {i still stand firm that degrassi lacked
normal sex}, the whole dramatic car crash etc.) can not really be
considered on the same plane at all.
it was melodramatic, but interesting, but i dont think it can
answer any questions about the characters' personalities or their
usual characteristics. but thats just my point of view, i am
interested in what peeps think
Annie
*Mark* I certainly think it was a part of the Degrassi series,
same characters, same production company, same writers, director,
producer, etc... Anyone feel different, please feel free to share
your ideas.

Hey Everyone,
I've been ever in such a bad mood since Showcase stopped playing
Degrassi at 7pm every weeks day! So, Today when I was in the
public library I thought, "Hey, lets see if they have some
Degrassi!" So, I typed it in on the computer and, volia!
They have every episode of Degrassi from the first season if
Junior High! Yessss! Now I will finally be able to see all of the
episodes.. and by the way, I think with Showcase Comercials, I've
missed over 1300 minutes of Degrassi! That's about 22 hours. Oh
gawd... I've got a lot of catching up to do. Anyways, check out
your local library, and if you happen to have 2 VCRs you can make
tapes of Degrassi! (I don't think it's legal, but ah well, the
Library doesn't appreaciate Degrassi like we all do) So anyways,
if you are lusting for some Degrassi, then check out your local
library. You don't have to take my word for it! (ha ha, reading
rainbow... : )
Bub bye,
~Paige : )

Being an American, I thought that the Canadian fashions worn on
Degrassi seemed unusual and exotic. Were the clothing worn by the
Degrassi gang typical of the Toronto teenagers? I never saw
anybody at my school wear metallic scarves, legwarmers, bandana
headbands, zebra stripes, knicker pants, or Hawaiian print
shirts. From my own high school years I mostly remember L.A. Gear
sneakers, acid washed jeans, Swatches, and color-block shirts
*Mark* Being a teenager in the late 1980's I can say that I
remember going to many States in the USA and finding the same
fashions as Canada.

Degrassi World #25: Stephanie Kaye's Shameful Secret
[This episode is a reinterpretation of "What a Night!"]
Stephanie Kaye was not naive, she knew that by entering Damon
King's motel room it was like admitting that she wanted to sleep
with him . . .and she thought she did. Her judgment was blurred
from the excitement of riding in a Porsche with the famous soap
opera star. Stephanie wanted to believe that she was as sexy and
sophisticated as the ladies he romanced on television.
However the situation moved too fast and felt sleazy. For awhile
Stephanie liked messing around but soon he was making her do
things that she was not ready for. She tried to fight Damon to
stop but he was too strong and fired up. Damon was very rough
with her, leaving scratches, bruises, and internal tearing. It
was the longest night of her life.
Damon offered to drive Stephanie home but she asked for cab fair
instead. He laughed and called her a child whore. Figuring that
the $300 "tip" he gave her validated patronage as
opposed to rape. After Damon left, Stephanie took a scalding hot
shower. She scrubbed herself over and over, as if to wash away
his presence. She changed back into her home clothes and threw
her sexy evening clothes in the garbage. On the cab ride home she
practiced a fake smile and fabricated a lie to tell her mother:
that she got lost on the subway. A week later she told her the
truth.
Her mother rushed her to the gynecologist then sought legal
action. Unfortunately by waiting and by discarding her clothes
and showering, Stephanie lost vital evidence (fingerprints,
blood, semen). Damon's lawyer was slick and intimidating. He
warned Stephanie's mom that this would turn into a scandal.
Stephanie would be exploited as a groupie slut out for money and
fame. To protect Stephanie from further trauma, they accepted a
settlement. The sad part was that Stephanie was not the first
girl that Damon's lawyer had paid off. The end.
