I just wanted to comment that I can't believe so many people thought that School's Out was so far fetched. I was able to relate to a lot of the movie when I re-watched it recently. The friendship between Caitlin and Lucy was totally understandable, as when I was in Grade 11, I had many courses with the Grade 12s to do our school's system, and for most of that year, I hung out with the Grade 12s. Also, I wonder how many of you either don't remember Grade 12, or haven't reached it yet. When I was in Grade 12 (Grad 94 still rules!), any party you went to, people were drinking. I can even remember how the two most popular and likeable guys in our grade would sneak out to the truck at lunch and drink the sixer they had stashed away (still can't believe they never got caught.) As far as I can see, the relationship between Caitlin and Joey was always doomed, as she was more mature than he was (or at least acted), and he needed someone who was more into the same kind of things he was. The two of them were bound to grow apart. I'm not saying that his cheating was an allowable thing to do, but it's more common than most people believe. I don't remember how many couples that were thought to last forever back in high school broke up because one half cheated with the other half's brother/best friend/etc. I don't know, maybe my high school is a rare one, but, once I graduated and saw the movie, I couldn't believe how true to reality it was. As far as Wheels' situation is concerned, one of our students didn't kill anyone in a drunk driving accident, but we did lose two students to drunk driving in that year. I said it before, I'll say it again, I thought School's Out was a great movie, and no one could ever convince me that the plot was too far fetched.

Cheryl

*Mark* I guess we all expected the final movie to end happily, so that it puts out mind at ease, like saying goodbye to a friend....for the last time, it may be upsetting...I guess School's out may have been like slap in the face, at least for me. I guess sometimes reality can be sad.

Do you know why Susie, Stephanie, Rick, and Voula left Degrassi Junior High? Had I been on the show they would have had to *drag* me off.

*Mark* Supposedly, Voula moved out into the suburbs and to another school. Stephanie Kaye and her mom got rich in a lottery, so she went to private school. We do not really know about Susie, or Rick.

Someone wanted to know what happened to LD..To clarify what happened to her, Well after LD got Leukemia she eventually went into remission and her dad sold his garage, house and everything, bought a boat, sailed around the world with LD. LD sent Lucy videos of her trip and Lucy sent LD videos of what was going on a Degrassi....that's why you can see Lucy walking around with her camera all the time. It was mentioned in one of the episodes of Degrassi High.

The movie was really great, it was just weird becuse of the year left unexplained in between. I have enjoyed reading the conclusions that people have come up with! The weirdest point in the movie for me was that mean chick, you know the one who hung out with Dwayne and tortured the niners, well she was at Alexa's wedding!!! Mysteriously she became friends enough to be invited too the wedding! I just thought that was wild! Then again equally as mysteriously Stephanie and Arthur dissapeared...I was really glad that Snake finally got a girlfriend though *smiles* it was about time! PS-I love the list Mark, it rules!!!

*Mark* I thought the film focused too much on the Joey, Caitlin, Wheels, Snake, and Lucy plot...but all the characters, where were they? I guess when it came down to it, the film wanted to be sure that it attracted the masses with the most popular characters...This neglected the other characters, and I was a bit disappointed about that. About Tabi at Alexa's wedding, maybe she grew up and stopped being such a bully. I think the film was suggesting that everyone became friends and all grown up.

Just a few things. One: Thank you for the newsletter every week, because of it, I now have a new very good friend. She was a Degrassi fan and we started to talk about it, we spent alot of time together and now trade emails daily. Two: I was looking through the Internet Movie Database and found out that Stefan Brogran is going to be in the new movie Hairshirt with Neve Cambell. If you didn't know, check it out at www.imdb.com I'm looking forward to seeing it and watching Snake in a real Hollywood movie. Thanks again.

Hello Degrassi Fans...
Excellent site and keep up the good work. I have a really hard question: Remember the episode were Tim and Liz went to the Pogues and Tim wanted to kiss Liz, but she was scared. Does anybody know the name of the little girl who played the "young" Liz during the scenes that she flashed back on that depicted her father molesting her?? If someone can give me a reply that would be excellent!! Thanks again and Joey 4 Life!!!

*Mark* I will find out for you...Check out David Nashtir's Degrassi Website....He has a complete list of characters for most episodes....it may be there. The episode is in Season 5, called Crossed Wires.

MARK,
Regards all your excitement over School's Out on the tv there - are you aware ABC TV here in Australia released it as a video for sale ? And I just happen to have 5 copies spare I picked up cheap at a clearance sale. Of course they are PAL system tapes you can't use on North America's NTSC format. Did CBC do the same ?

In respect of your comment about Degrassi not being technically superior in a recent DIGEST I was well aware of certain errors and deficiences in some scenes especially the early ephisodes. However the camera angles, and whole heap of other production features are superior to NORTHWOOD. I happen to know PWT shot many scenes from various angles then used the best one after reveiwing them all. The scripts in Degrassi was superior, as were small details such as the lighting, camera focusing, & sound.
*Mark* I definitely do not agree with you about technical superiority, but we all can have different views. Also I was not comparing Degrassi to Northwood at all because I was not as familiar to Northwood as I am to Degrassi. I also think that Northwood, being more of a soap opera may have had different technical qualities than Degrassi, not necessarily more or less superior. I do not think CBC sold School's Out in stores. I think it was only sold and rented through educational distributors.

If anyone wants to see "Stephanie Kaye" get killed, rent Bram Stoker's Shadowbuilder. My husband and I rented it last night and I was excited to discover her in a minor role. How old is she?

I remember when "School's Out" aired for the first time ages ago, and the next day at school, all everyone talked about was how they said the "F-word" on Degrassi. I enjoyed the film and I loved the scenes as soon as they got to Bronco's cottage. It all pretty much goes down hill from there, I thought it was great.

Do you know any of Stefan Brogren's vital stats? Like his birthday, marital status, the usual? He's my favourite, him and Amanda Stepto. Keep up the fantastic job on the degrassi digest.

*Mark* Thanks for the update, and the compliment!

Dear Mark,
Hi! How are you? Welcome back to school, that is, if you are still in school. Recently, I saw a news story on Toronto's CityPulse News at 6pm. The piece told of a fire that destroyed a volunteer-run shelter for young mothers and their children called Jesse's Place. Fortunately, no mothers or kids were seriously injured. When the reporter interviewed a staff member for a comment, it was Rebecca Haines/"Kathleen". I assume she has an important position there, if they thought she was worth speaking to on camera. Unfortunately, I do not remember exactly what day the story was broadcast, what with the long weekend and the back to school chaos and such. I did try searching the CityPulse transcripts at <http://www.citytv.com/citypulse> for most of early September, but I couldn't find anything. Now I'm thinking that it might have happened right at the end of August. I hope this info helps anyways. As always, keep up the good work! I know it's early, but have a Shana Tova uMetukah!! (MMmmm.....apples n' honey......)

Sincerely,

Aron M. Papernick

PS: I REALLY enjoyed the Degrassi pilgrimage part of your site. I have
lived in Toronto my whole life and I didn't know some of the
history you related of those neighbourhoods. I also wanted to
make my own pilgrimage some day, I think the info you provided
will be very helpful.

*Mark* Thanks for the update Aron, and a Happy New Year to any other Jewish Degrassi subscribers. I think our new year is on the 21st of September.

DEGRASSI WORLD # 21: Welcome back, Lucy and L.D.
^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v

Lucy and L.D. entered Degrassi University two years later then the rest of their friends. L.D. needed time to recuperate from the chemotherapy treatments for her Leukemia. Lucy endured laser eye surgeries to reverse the blindess caused by Derek Wheeler's drunk driving accident. For two years Lucy and L.D. became recluses. They blocked out all their friends except each other. At first it felt good to block out the world. They feared that the future would never live up to their cherished days at Degrassi High.

It was Heather and Erica, whom helped them re-adjust to the outside world. The twins showed up unexpectedly and found Lucy and L.D. in their bathrobes, scarfing Doritos and watching Saved By the Bell reruns. Horrified that their once mighty friends were now coach potatoes, the twins forced them to get a life. It was hard for Lucy and L.D. because little things that used to take for granted, like applying for a job or enrolling for classes, now seemed scary.

At their first day of Degrassi University, Lucy and L.D. could not walk down the halls without being swarmed by friends from Degrassi High. The Film and Television Department went out of their way to make sure Lucy could participate in every way. Lucy began working on the screenplay for "It Creeps . . .The Sequel ". L.D. enrolled with a double major of physical education and physical therapy. Her new dream is to start a soccer clinic for children will illnesses and disabilities.

Heather is hiding a secret from Lucy: the fact that she loves Derek Wheeler. She is ashamed for liking Derek because he was responsible for Lucy's blindness. For two years she visited him in prison and exchanged letters. Originally she and Derek were supposed to start dating when he got out of prison, which would be in three months. However now that Heather and Lucy are friends again, she does not know what to do. The End.
