My friends and I are trying to meet as many Degrassi actors as possible this summer and we were wondering if anyone knew which actors were still living in Toronto, and where they were working? Thanks!!!

*Mark* Hang around the Beaches, just east of downtown Toronto, or go to Queen's street West, opposite of the Beaches, or go to Annex, Bloor Street west, theses places may help you out.

Hi I too remember watching Swan's Crossing. It played one summer on ITV. It had Sarah Michelle Gellar in it. Here's the write up about it on IMDB:

Swans Crossing was a short-lived half-hour serial following the lives, loves, and intrigues of twelve wealthy teenagers who stir up scandal and excitement in their small town. Among them are: Sydney Rutledge, the mayor's scheming daughter; Garrett Booth, a manipulative charmer and Sydney's blackmailing ex-boyfriend; Mila Rosnovsky, a former television star; and Neil Atwater, a young scientist who is trying to create the world's first self-propetuated rocket fuel. Also does anyone remember watching a show that was aired on either CTV or CBC and it was about teenagers. I remember the one girl was going to have an abortion then they took it off the air. It was really short lived and i remember watching it when i came home from school. And finally last but not least, did anyone watch Class of 96 on Cbc? It was a great show as well that didn't last long. It had the girl who played Doogie Howser's girlfriend in it. And the girl from The Craft and Empire Records.

I think Sara Ballingall is a lot like Melanie in real life. I don't know for sure, but it's a probable truth. Simple - as a good and observant judge of acting and character it is clear Sara didn't require a lot of effort to play the part most of the time. She fit that part perfectly and given as I said my own mum is a lot like her you can tell these things. Needless to say I looked a a bit like a male verson of Melanie when I was a teen - even had the same red-brown hair colour then - but I've got a better profile than her. When you see almost yourself in a mirror on the tv you can guess things pretty correctly. ( My mum by the way only difference between her and Sara is she doesn't have the freckles and her face is a bit thinner ).

Here are some more of my "brilliant" analyses of the show. There are several great tragedies of the show: [1] We never saw ALLISON get that long awaited date with SNAKE ( can you image the creative thought that would have had to have gone into that topic in the script dept. ) [2] We never knew if KATHLEEN ever spoke to MELANIE after she spilled the beans about her dairy entries at the sleepover. [3] TRISH who did a great job in the Kids of Degrassi Street never got much of a part in the show particulary the HIGH ephisodes. There are lots more but I can't recall them at the moment. Am waiting to see your comments on who did the best acting in the show. Please be objective and analyize the degree of difficulty of each part and the actors performance. Mark - has anyone got a complete copy of the soundtrack of the final scene in the final HIGH ephisode - one I could buy ? - the track was called "Inside my Piano" - had a great tune. I might suggest - next time you talk to PWT why don't you ask them if they would put out a CD with all the music tracks used in the show - all the ones by Larry Gowan, the theme tracks etc.... Andrew Sutcliffe

*Mark* I do not think there is a Degrassi soundtrack, but most of the Degrassi soundtrack are a variety of Canadian artists ,like Gowan.

I did not recognize any of the songs that were played at the Degrassi jr./sr. High dances. They did not use the regular Top 40 hits you hear on MTV. Perhaps the songs they used were only known in Canada. I am also curious about the background music they played to add dramatic impact to the scenes. It made Degrassi seem more like a "soap opera" than a drama.

*Mark* The music played at the school dances were mostly well known and not so well known Canadian musicians.

Subject: Northwood (Degrassi's true copycat)

I've been reading several digests in which subscribers have commented on various copycat shows of the degrassi series however there is one show that the subscribers haven't mentioned. The show was called Northwood. It was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. The show only lasted 2 years but was the closest copycat to Degrassi that I have seen yet. Degrassi portrayed teen lives on the Eastern side of Canada while Northwood portrayed teens living on the Western coast. Like Degrassi with The Zit Remedy, Northwood also had a band except that they produced a CD for purchase in the stores. Whoever produced Northwood was apparently trying to recruit Degrassi fans with the catch of similarities in characters and storylines but their attempt was not successful. I resented Northwood for being a Degrassi copycat. It was so much like watching Degrassi but with different characters. As Northwood disappeared into oblivion, Degrassi remained the one show I would always remember. Northwood just couldn't keep u .

*Mark* I used to watch Northwood, they were older, the show did not last long...The characters seemed overly consumed with sex, violence, and drugs, (sometimes a warped depiction of teenagers.) It tried to be a copycat of Degrassi, only more tough, raw, and more of a soap opera.

Hi Mark,

The Showcase channel that has been playing Degrassi for the past year is run by Alliance Broadcasting. I happened to be at Alliance yesterday for a job interview and I asked them about Degrassi. They informed me the time for Degrassi is almost up. I just wanted to let everyone know so they can catch as many more episoded as they can. They didn't tell me when they were ending the run, but I imagine things will probably change in September. If I get hired, I'll post the exact ending. Until then, keep watching!!

Cynthia

*Mark* Well it is sad to hear that Degrassi is ending, tape all the episodes before September, and I hope you got the job at Alliance, so you can maybe suggest getting it back on Showcase. anyone want to post message for Degrassi on Showcase, go to http://www.showcase.ca

Re: No subject

The great thing about me and the Degrassi Kids is that we were the same age and grades growing up so it was so nice to divelge into another peers lives that were so similar to the ones around me. I could feel and relate to others my age and endure stresses that come naturally during those adolescent/ramboncious years. I felt like someone actually understood what I was going through, presented these teen issues to the public and resolved them accordingly. And it was REAL, not some Hollywood/Gone With The Wind everyday story that is just taken for granted or mishandled and everone just moved on to the next topic. I ultimately wonder is there a way to order every single episode at one time and how can I place my order? Thanx for bringing back such fond fulfilling memories Mark....

Allen of Chapman High '92

*Mark* I also graduated from high school in 1992.see the post up above for checking out how you can order the Degrassi series...When I ordered the some Degrassi episodes, they were $30.00 American in 1988. BEWARE, they may have gone up in price.

I have been a degrassi fan forever. I still watch the Showcase reruns religiously. Your site is great! Please answer a burning question- where is Wheels now? I read the one interview that said Neil Hope dropped off the planet, and I have heard rumours that he had lots of problems after the show ended. Please let me know!

DEGRASSI WORLD #14: STEPHANIE & VOULA REUNITE AT DEGRASSI HIGH

[Author's note: Originally Stephanie and Voula did not attend Degrassi High.

However in Degrassi World, both girls transfer to Degrassi High for their

senior years.]

Over the years Stephanie became more conservative and moralistic. Stephanie has a higher self esteem now, she studies hard and wears preppy clothes. She is still hungry for attention but she achieves it though accomplishments as opposed to promiscuity. Stephanie joined a youth gospel ministry and is determined to bring salvation to everyone at Degrassi. She became annoyingly self righteous, pretentiously quoted Bible versus to anyone who'd listen. Voula on the other hand had become wild. After a lifetime of being shy and studious, she wanted to be sexy and dangerous. Over the summer she partied with a crowd of heavy metal "headbangers". She drank beer and slept with an assembly line of boyfriends. On the first day of school she wore slashed jeans and a motorcycle jacket. She announced that her new name was Pandora. Dwayne, Nick and Taby requited her into their clique. Stephanie was horrified at Voula's new image, she caught Voula and Taby smoking in the girls washroom. "Voula!" she said, "Why are you behaving like trash? What happened to the smart, respectable girl that used to be my best friend?" Voula answered, "Voula is dead! My name is Pandora. Who are you to criticize me? Remember when you used to dress like a tramp?" Stephanie responded "That's exactly why I am trying to help you, I hated myself back then. I don't want you to throw your life away." Voula knew that Stephanie was right. Voula did feel cheap and phony but she was not ready to reform her ways. Being cool was too important. Taby laughed at Stephanie and expected Voula to blow her off. To prove her toughness, Voula puffed a cloud of smoke in Stephanie's face and said "See ya in hell, baby". But deep inside she was hurting. THE END
