Hi mark
Do you know if videos or books of degrassi can be traded or copied
without breaking the law. Since the videos and books are out of print.
Also do you know where i can get a copy of "Melanie (Degrassi Junior
High)" Susin Nielsen; price currently unknown (Out of print; availability
varies)
I can not get this at http://www.amazon.com
I am also interested in obtaining a copy of this PBS documentary, Please
provide me with information about obtaining it. good luck with you finals.
Thanks a lot
Jay
*Mark* The videos and books are not out of print. Check out my front page
and also http://www.degrassi.org/Features/pertinentaddresses.htm
where you will find useful addresses and phone numbers so you can order videos.
Please mail Jay privately at
jcrunning@juno.com
The documentary Degrassi -Between Takes was produced by CBC, and not PBS.
I do not know if it can be purchased by contacting WGBH Boston.
I think contacting CBC or a Canadian film distribution company would lead
you to the right place.

Hi Mark
Can you post the articles on degrassi newspaper on your web site All 5
seasons. I will look at it when i get on the internet at my friend's
house. I do not have the web anymore. My e mail will remain the same.
thanks
jay
*Mark* That is a good idea, but I do not know if it is better to convert
the five seasons of the Degrassi newspaper to text (OCR) and then place it
on the web with its accompanying pictures, or to scan them in as pictures,
and then it would require much memory.
If you want, you can send me like 2 or three dollars Canadian and I can
photocopy the Degrassi newspaper for you...for all seasons, or for one season.
I do not think I can scan all the pages in as images, or as OCR (text)

g'day mark and all,
anyway, i have some questions. at the start of schools out, tessa was
asking yick or someone to take her back home together or something.
well, i havn't seen schools out in years and i have only seen it once, so i
dunno if i am just imagining or this really happened. anyway, were
she and yick together or something? and yick didn't want to go back cause
he was drunk and that. and joey got tessa pregnant, rite? did she get
an abortion or what? and did joey have to go back to high school or
somethin cos he failed? and did tessa go back to high school too cos
she didn't graduate yet? and how come caitlin suddenly ended up in the
same class as snake and lucy etc in high school? i think i'm probaly
just imagining things bcos i havn't seen degrassi in ages, but this has
been buggin me. and what happen to voula after djh? and what happened
to l.d? and was there any gay or lesbian caracters on the show? i do
remember in djh an episode where there were rumours about miss.avery
about being a lesbian (which wasn't true), but were any homosexual
students? and were there any episodes focused just on nancy? she
always seemed to be in the toilet and nosing in on other peoples
conversations. were there any episodes focused on yick in dh? do u
know of any other degrassi actors e-mail addresses? who were your
favourite caracters?
goodbye.

The show that Sheryl is referring was entitled (I believe) "The Judge". It
was a strictly fictional show (unlike People's Court or Judge Judy). I
don't remember seeing the particular episode that Sheryl is referring to.
I do remember seeing one with Pat (Joey) and one (possibly the same
episode) with the actress who plays Alexa. For some reason, I keep
thinking that the episode(s) had something to do with child abuse. The show
was on the air in the late 80's and early 90's. I believe that
it was on syndication in the U.S. not affiliated with the networks. I was
already a fan of Degrassi when I saw this episode, so it stuck out in my
mind although the details are very fuzzy.

I know that Pat Mastroianni has a part in the movie Godzilla- how big is
his part? What else has he been up to lately?
Does anybody know where he is living and where he can be reached? I heard
that "Joey" and "Caitlin" dated in real life and that
one of his co-stars had a fling with her which broke up the relationship.
(Back when Degrassi was being filmed) has anybody else
heard this? Is it just a rumor? Degrassi Rocks!!
*Mark* Yes, it is a rumour that Pat plays Apache Pilot #5 in Godzilla, but
I am bot sure if it THE PAT MASTROIANINI who played Joey Jeremiah on
Degrassi. AJ has told me he could not find him in the film. Please post to
the digest to let us know if he was in the film.

hi,=20
i want to start a webpage in honour of Trish from degrassi high (she had
the red spiked mowhawk). the problem is that i cannot find any pictures of
her anywhere. if anyone knows someplace on the web where i could find some
pictures i would be very grateful.=20
jfk.
*Mark* The best thing to do is to ask a friend to capture some images from
the show, and to save them as images. She was not a main character in the
series, but she was in "Smokescreen", "The Whole Truth", "Twenty
Bucks",
also "One Last Dance"

Subject: Was Maya really in a wheelchair?
Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone knows if Maya, the wheelchair girl,
was really in a wheelchair in real life or just pretending on the
show??
Ya and I saw Stephanie Kaye in a movie on showcase the other day, and ya
know what?? She looks pretty much the same as she did in DJH. Same
hair, same everything. I didn't watch the movie though..I was just flipping
channels, so I don't know the name of the movie. The movie was
made in 1994 or 1995. I haven't seen or heard anything about her since DJH.
Rachel
*Mark* Kyra Levy, who played Maya on the series is not in a wheelchair.
She played someone who suffered from Spina Bifida, but she can be seen
walking just fine in downtown Toronto. She has been spotted many times
downtown. Nicole Stoffman got much fame for playing Stephanie Kaye in her
two seasons of Degrassi Junior High, so she went on to star in other
roles..she was in the comedy called Learning the Ropes. Check out the
Internet Movie Database to see what else she has done.
She went to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec specializing in theatre
(in the English department). I am not aware of what she is doing now.

Subject: Degrassi locations
Thanks for posting the info in the latest Digest. Well, I checked out some
of the
locations over the weekend.
The Degrassi High (Centennial College) is very easy to get to. It's a 10
minute walk
north of the Pape subway station. The front of the school is pretty much
unchanged,
with the exception of a renovated area on the south west side. It is now
called the
Bell Center for Creative Communications (www.bccc.com). I went inside for a
quick
look, and it really looks the same. The ramp is located inside the front
door, but
was much smaller than I would have thought.
A quick bus trip south takes you to Queen & Carlaw, the center of
"Degrassi" including
the Shoppers Drugmart used in many episodes (joey buys condoms, spike buys
pregnancy
test, joey works there during School's Out), and directly across the street
is the
old Playing with Time office. As we all know, PWT split, the building is
now occupied
by some hotels type office, but the owner of the building left the window
painted
with the PTW signage, as a sort of tribute I guess. The receptionist there
now told
me that they weren't allowed to remove it.
A few blocks west of there is Degrassi street. It is small, and very
different than
you get the idea of from the show. I found the Degrassi Grocery, and
actually went
in and bought some gum. The store is tiny. Two little isles packed with
stuff, and
a very unfriendly shopworker who didn't appreciate being asked about the
show. You
might remember when Yik and Arthur called Dr. Sue to ask about Arthur's wet
dreams,
they called from a payphone across the street from the store. Well, there
is no payphone
there at all. It's either been removed, or was simply a prop for the show.
The store
is located one block south of Dundas, obviously on Degrassi St.
I had a really fun time checking out these locations, and took a bunch of
photos
that will soon appear on a Degrassi Location web site. I will also be going
out to
check out more of the locations used in the series, and will post more info
as I
get it.
P.S. Just wondering if anybody else feels cheated with the ending of
School's Out?
I really think they need to make a 10 year reunion so we can get some
closure on
the many questions they left in my mind at the end of the Degrassi era.
Anyone else
feel this too?
*Mark* Actually Kit Hood still owns the PWT building, but I think he rents
it out to the association of youth hostels in Toronto.
I went there last month. I felt cheated and robbed by "School's Out". I
really wanted the ending to have Caitlin and Joey get back together, but
the show was realistic, and reality is not always happy, but when it comes
to high school, it is likely to not have the same friends you have had
since high school, as people do grow up and change a lot during those years.

Degrassi World #5 Lucy Hosts A Teen Talk Show on Cable Access
Shortly after directing her horror film, "IT CREEPS", Lucy Fernandez
discovers that the local cable television station donates free public
access hours to worthy causes. To qualify, the show topics must be a
service to the community. Lucy decides to submit her idea for a teen talk
show devoted to political and social issues.
As a result, Lucy is granted a one hour weekly series. However, she must
provide her own cast, crew, and set design. Together with Heather, Erica,
LD, Tim, Alexa, Joey, Snake, Wheels, and Caitlin--Lucy forms "Fernandez
Productions". The name of the show is "Turn Up the Volume". Lucy is the
host; friends from Degrassi pose as the studio audience.
The crew designs the set the best they can with a $90 budget. Most of the
props and furniture are donations from their own rooms. Heather and Erica
paint a cool psychedelic-style mural on the wall. Caitlin scavenges thrift
shops for funky and eclectic art pieces. The Zits compose and perform the
theme song: "Turn up the volume, pump up the base. We're gonna shove
reality in your face. It's time to hear the truth, from the mob of angry
youth. Revolution! Revolution! Hear our cry for sol-u-tion!".
Lucy's discussion itinerary is quite controversial: drugs, gangs, suicide,
sex, violence, racism, etc. For the premiere episode Lucy interviews
Courtney, a teen runaway/prostitute. Courntey's story is chilling. Her pimp
beat her and kept her dependent on Heroine. Prior to running way she had
been a straight A student, a homecoming queen, . . . and a virgin.
Lucy's show became an underground favorite. She even had the university
students tuning in. Everything was perfect until the school district caught
wind of the show. They threatened to expel the entire crew unless they
changed the format to "more appropriate" issues. They suggested that Lucy
talk about neutral subjects like fashion, music, sports, and movie stars.
Rather than compromise her artistic integrity, Lucy decides to end "Turn Up
the Volume" after six episodes. She felt that it was better to die as a
legend than continue as a sell-out. However, Lucy's efforts did not die in
vain. Courtney's family saw the show and talked Courtney into coming home.
Courtney would later name her daughter after Lucy. THE END.
