SOME LITTLE KNOWN DEGRASSI FACTS:
The cafeteria scenes at Degrassi Junior High are not filmed in the building where DJH was filmed. They were filmed at a junior high school in east end Toronto called Earl Grey. I do not think there is a cafeteria in Vincent Massey Junior School. Also in "The Great Race", the swimming pool is not part of Degrassi Junior High. It was filmed at the Pape Recreation Centre at Pape and Gerrard in Toronto. The building where DJH was filmed in was really a small building in my opinion.

i'm sending this spike-song. i got it from a punk-cassett, so i'm sorry for the bad recording
*Mark* The song is great. Thank you very Sverre for sending to me. You need to install Winamp to listen to the song about Spike, but it literally is a very small file, and it takes less than ten seconds to install. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me and I will send you the two files, Spike's song and the program to listen. Please not that the file extension is mp3, not WAV or MIDI, so you cannot listen to it by those programs. I will later put it on the site for all of you to listen. Thank you Sverre.
To Listen to Spike's song: First download Winamp to hear it, then check out Spike's song

Does anyone know if they plan on puting the show back on? Nancy
*Mark* They are bound to put the show on again on reruns. I have seen "Little House on the Prairie" which was from the 1970's on some cable networks. The best bet is to check your local TV listings and find the telephone number of some cable stations. A&E, Showtime, Lifetime, YTV, Nickelodeon,PBS etc are some examples in North America. I doubt that major networks will ever be exposed to Degrassi, but try calling Epitome Pictures at (416) 752-7627 in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). Ask them if they know what networks or stations Degrassi can be shown in the United States, Canada, or Europe, Asia, South America, Australia, etc..

Does anyone know what the cast of the show has been up to since the show ended?
Nancy
*Mark* Well since 1991, a lot of updates have been made on the Degrassi cast. The bnest thing to do is to check it out on Oren and Guy's Degrassi Fanclub Website at http://members.tripod.com/~degrassi, Sharon's Degrassi Update at http://www.ariel.cs.yorku.ca/~cs952192/update.html where she has a weekly and monthly update on who she and her friends bump in to around Toronto, where the show was filmed ten years ago. As well check out David's extensive Degrassi Site at http://math.technion.ac.il/~nashtir/degrassi.html where you will find information about three Degrassi actors Dan Woods, Rebecca Haines, and Ken Hung. Thank you for your post.

Mark, I just wanted to think you for taking the time to answer the questions of many Degrassi fans. I think that you sound like a marvelous, very nice person and am always courteous in your responses. Please keep up the good work..
Here is my own little trivia questions
1. What was Tabby always eating in school?
2. How was Dwayne punishing Joey until Mr. Raditch saw?
Latina
*Mark* Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate the fact that people are enjoying the Digest and that I am trying to help, and to re-vitalize the Degrassi Series. As for your answers, wasn't Tabby always eating a box of Granola "Dipp" Bars, and she also ate very often peanut butter. A lot of the Degrassi Gang also wore T-Shirts that said Clear-Tech, which is basically cream for pimples and blemishes. The reason why they wore that was because the advertisers bought time from their show, so CBC probably asked them to subliminally advertise it on the show. Tabby may have liked those Granola Bars, "Quaker Granola Dipps", but I think the actress did this more out of promoting the advertisers, rather than pigging out on the show. As for Question #2, Wasn't Dwayne punishing Joey by initiating him by bullying him, dressin him in bra and underwear, until Mr. Raditch saw. Thank you Latina for your post.

hi y'all, i'm new on this list so i hope i'm not asking questions that have already been asked. i'll start now with some stuff that i'm either wondering or that others may be interested in knowing:
1- i don't know about every other province, but in montreal i still watch degrassi
junior high (7:00pm) and degrassi high (7:30pm) every night from monday-friday on
showcase...check it out!
2- where can i find those degrassi books that came out?
3- does anyone have a copy of "school's out" that they could copy for me? i can't believe i missed it!
4- what's going on with steve bedernjak (clutch)?
a bit about me- i'm 18, from montreal and have been watching degrassi forever. i hope someone can help me out with my questions. take care and write when ever you can!
*Mark* Showcase is shown throughout Canada, as it is a Canadian Cable Network, but due to the different timezomes, Degrassi is obviously shown at different times. About Degrassi Books, when I spoke with Epitome Pictures (former Playing With Time) they told me that James Lorimer was still the publisher who published the Degrassi Series. When I contacted Chapters Bookstore on Stanley and Ste. Catherine (I'm from Montreal too), they told me that there may be another publisher handling the books called the University of Toronto Press. Check it out at the order department of Chapters. Unfortunately, there is less in stock, so you have to order the books. They are not sitting on the shleves anymore because the series is very old, (almost 10 years old) I did recently purchase a Kids of Degrassi Street book, from the early 1980's so check it out. I do not know any updates with the Degrassi actors, but you can check out Oren and Guy's Degrassi Fanclub Site at http://members.tripod.com/~degrassi and Sharon's Degrassi Update Site at http://www.ariel.cs.yorku.ca/~cs952192/update.html

Howdy! I don't know if anyone out there already knew...But about 2 years ago (I don't remember exactly when) aprox. the guy who played Joey (Pat M) (I'm not sure how to spell his last name) on Degrassi, was on a series called Liberty street. It was a show about 20 something people living in old building made into apartments. It showed the lives of each people living in each apartment. Joey played a guy named Frank who was supposed to manage the building as well as act as the superintent. The show no longer runs anymore and as far as I know there isn't any reruns on tv. In my opinion it was a great show..but it didn't compare to Degrassi.
Rachel
*Mark* I did not watch Liberty Street, but I heard it was like a Canadian version of Melrose Place with much Degrassi characteristics. It is too bad the show lasted only 1-2 years. I wonder why it was not as successful as Degrassi. Thank you for your post.

Hi. I really like the Degrassi Digest and I think you're doing a great job! But one comment I would like to make is that when you tell people the time Degrassi can be shown in Canada you always say from 7-8 pm. I live in B.C. and it is shown on Showcase here at 6-7 pm. Just didn't want to confuse people who were on Pacific Time. Thanx!! =)
*Mark* Thank you for letting us all know that. As I know that you are three hours behind Eastern Standard Time, I did not realize that Degrassi would be broadcasted at a different time. Thanks for your post.

Adam
*Mark* Thanks for letting me know of Sue Johanson. I know there is Dr. Laura Schlesinger, Rhona Raskin, and of course Dr. Ruth Westheimer, but I did not know that Sue Johanson was actually a sex therapist on the radio. Thank you for the correction.

Have u found out yet when schools out willl be on showcase? Does anyone know what episodes it is at now? Adam
*Mark* Keep checking every week. School's Out was broadcast in the late fall of 1997 on Showcase, but I missed it becuase I ahd not looked in the TV listings. It is probably on Prime Time, so check for TV listings in the evening time. You can also try looking at the Showcase website for some updates or any announcement of any movies being shown. I tried mailing the publicist who was promoting the airing of the Degrassi series on Showcase, but she never wrote back. Her e-mail address is diversen@alliance.ca The address on the Website of Showcase is incorrect. It says diverson@alliance.ca, but it is incorrect. The first address I gave you above is the correct one.
Good luck.

Well, Sue does have her own show- it is on radio too!- AM 640/TALK 640 which is reached in Toronto.....Now the show isn't as popular for younger people, cuz the topics are more to do with the love lifes of older people..... it's on sunday nights (hence- Sunday Night Sex Show) from 9-11 (I think) pm. Bye!
~Paige : )
okay. here we go- i'm back..... ummm... there wuz someone here a while ago asking if anyone listens to the announcements in the back ground... i do, and there is a real funny one:
day one: "The lunch special today is Tuna surprize!"
day two: "Would anyone who had the Tuna Surprize yesterday please go to the nurse's office Right Away!"
heh heh heh.... As well, on the degrassi update page,it said that there was a news group "alt.tv.degrassi" but i tried it and it didn't work!!!!!! what's going on here???
~Paige : )
*Mark* First to answer some of your questions, as for alt.tv.degrassi, the newsgroup does exist, but some newsreaders, which are connected to news-servers do not have access to "alt" newsgroups do not appear. So they do exist, but some Universities and some ISP's block the news-server from getting access to "alt" newsgroups, because they are the easiest newsgroup to create, and they are in the lowest level of the newsgroup hierarchies. As for Mr. Lawrence announcing his comments on the loudspeaker, I have found that whatver the theme of the show is, that particular day, Mr. Lawrence happens to say what the "thought" of the day is, like When Snake had trouble accepting his brother's homosexuality, the thought of the day was "brotherhood" How coincidential that Mr. Lawrence happened to mention the thought of the day when Snake was the focus of the episode and he was having trouble lookng up to his all-star brother when he found out that he is gay. Thanks for your comments and corrections about Sue Johanson.

Why did L.D leave the show?
Tracy
*Mark* I do not know why Amanda Cook, who played L.D. for four years left the show. Her character had leukemia, and missed most of Grade 10, so she probably took the year off. The ladt year of Degrassi when the older grade is in Grade 11, we find out that the Delacourts sold the family garage, and bought a houseboat, so I do not know why Amanda Cook left the series. Maybe she wanted to pursue a career in something other than acting, or wanted to quit Degrassi.

I don't know if anyone noticed or not..But this is more of a goof up than anything. In the Degrassi high episode where Heather, (or was it Erica? I always mix the two of them up) likes Wheel's and invites him a party. The party is supposed to be at Heather and Erica's house. Well the house Heather and Erica are supposed to live at in that episode, is the same house that Snake lived at, in the episode where Wheel's sleep's on the porch. How can Heather and Erica live in the same house as Snake?? In an Old Degrassi episode it shows Heather and Erica living in a townhouse on a busy street corner. I think Degrassi has goofed on that one! Also..In the episode where Michelle moves out, they show her in her room packing to leave. Then in the episode where Michelle has to study for a test and goes to her Dad's to study. She goes to her old room to study. If you notice the room in which she is packing and the room in which she is studying are not the same room. So which room is really hers?? Degrassi has once goofed again! I think Degrassi should of remembered which characters lived where and which rooms they had, before they made any future episodes!
Rachel
*Mark* I understand and agree that Degrassi had some inconsistencies. I guess most of the houses were used on Degrassi Street, and the people in that neighbourhood were kind to offer their homes. As well if you go on Degrassi street in Toronoto, they all look very similar. They are all very old, built in the early part of the 20th Century or earlier, with those nice, french doors, and high ceilings, hardwood floors, etc...
According to Rebecca Haines, did you know that Lucy's house on the show was the home of Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler. I guess they could have had a shortage of available homes, so they could have used one home for more than one character, but decorated it differently so it did not look like two people had the same house. Wheels, and Caitlin, & Snakealways had the same house, but we are not so sure about the twins, because the used to live at a corner house, two storeys high, on a wide street, and Michelle also lived in a house two storey's high, on a busy, wide street. As you sayd Degrassi "goofed up", you are right, but it must be difficult to be consistent with a character's home, if they are only a character on a show, and not a really person. One must make sure that their home is available for filming, not burned down, and the neighbourhood must comply and be cooperative with lending their home to be used for the show. Thank you for your comments.

Gee..Why can't Degrassi be on tv everyday forever?? Hmmm...I can dream can't I?? If that dream ever came true..then I'd have Patrick (Vincent Walsh) and Clutch (Steve Bedjernak) all to myself! Degrassi..what a wonderful world!
Rachel
*Mark* Syndication is a production company's dream come true. I am sure that Epitome Pictures are hoping that Degrassi stays on the air as syndicated for a long time as well. I think when a show goes on syndication every time it is showing, I think the actors may get some royalties, ( I think) and so it is good to have a show go on for a long time. It keeps the memory alive, but mostly series can be successful as syndicated, because anthologies, and serials do not work, because each episode continues into the other ( as in Soap Operas, which are Serials) so it is good that Degrassi is a series with some serial-like qualities. I am happy that the show is still on.
